Movie Reviews of Mermaids

Movie Review: It's in his kiss
Summary: 5 Stars

Mermaids is another movie based on a book I haven't read. It stars Cher, Winona Ryder, and a very young Christina Ricci. Mrs. Flax (Cher) ups her family to the east coast to start all over again. She chooses where to move based on closing her eyes and pointing at a map. Reluctantly dragged along are her daughters Charlotte (Ryder) and Kate (Ricci). Charlotte is going through a very confusing time of her life - she wants to become a nun, even though her family isn't even Catholic. Instead she falls in love with a quiet, much older handyman who works at the church. The movie is set in the early sixties and was a part of the fabric of my teenage years.

Movie Review: Nothing Better than Cher in a movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

Egads, this is one of those I remember where I was when I saw the movie. It became a favorite for my daughter and I as she was growing up. I bought this dvd copy to share with my granddaughter as she grows up. The VCR edition is totally fried. Enjoy Winona Ryder as a young woman painfully budding into life and Christina Ricci as a child in innocence, caught up in the joy of just being alive. Cher is their mom... and believe me she is one of a kind in this one. With sandwiches cut into hearts and stars, moves every six months, this mom providing for her two girls brings a new slant into family life in the sixties.

Movie Review: can you eat mermaids like fish?
Summary: 5 Stars

cher actually does a surprising good job as a single mother who definately won't act her age. she does facial expressions just about as well as keanu reeves...but it was ok. winona ryder plays the role of the displaced, confused and uber religious girl. not to mention so naive that you cant help but laugh. chritina ricci is great as the cute little sister but your view of her is kind of warped after you come to immidiately associate her with her morbid addams family character, wednesday. this is a great movie to watch when you're depressed or just need something to watch on a rainy day.

Movie Review: Mermaids Swims!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great movie, even if it was not a blockbuster. Cher gives a wonderful performance as Mrs. Flax! The film requires her to shift between drama and comedy which Cher does easily! Winona Ryder gives a great performance as a confused girl. Christina Ricci is a delight and her performance hints at what she would do. It's a great movie to watch over and over again! The music is wonderful, as is, the town in which the film was shot, Rockport, MA. I highly reccomend this film to any Cher, Winona or Christina fan. Bob Hoskins also gives a wonderful performance!

Movie Review: Dumb Title, Good Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I have seen Mermaids 8 times and I still love it! It's touching, funny, and most of all it's my favorite movie! Cher plays a sassy widow who has two daughters, one strange teenage one(Winona Ryder), and one absolutely cute one(Christina Ricci). Later on in the movie Cher encounters Mr. Bob Hoskins, and he starts falling in love with her. I do not know why they named it Mermaids. I think they could have picked a better name. Rated PG-13 fo sensual thoughts, one scene with sensuality, and language.
