Movie Reviews of MenMovie Review: Sean Young's lead role Summary: 3 Stars
Usually the supporting actress, Sean Young takes the lead in MEN. The cover of the DVD is mis-leading. Looking at it, one would naturally think that her character is devious, callous and manipulating. This is not the case. Nor is the title of the film very suitable as I don't think it's about "men" at all.
Rather, it's about relationships. Think back in your life to one person with whom you enjoyed spending time with more than anyone else. The one person of the opposite gender who made you feel more alive & vibrant than anyone else. This may or may not be your spouse; all of us have different life stories.
This, I believe, is the crux of this film. The magical times in our life and the value we place on that one special person - even if it is now only a distant memory. In this terse life, there is nothing like being able to bond with someone whom we are enamoured with.
To be sure, this movie tells a rather bizarre story. Instead of being a femme fatale of some sort, Sean Young plays a woman who is in some ways a sort of catcher-in-the-rye to lost men. Be forewarned, the story kind of meanders a bit & I'm not altogether sure if all the scenes should have made it past the cutting room floor.
If you like Sean Young, you will likely enjoy this film. She does waltz around nude a few times, which was a nice bonus. If you're not one who gets into movies that border on the "experimental," this one might be best avoided.
