Movie Reviews of Meet Joe Black

Movie Review: Great performances by Forlani, Pitt and Hopkins!
Summary: 5 Stars

It's hard to believe this movie is three hours long. They packed so much into this drama/romance. Every scene introduces yet another aspect to the story that presents a source of tension or conflict.

The romance between Susan and Joe is wonderful. There is definitely chemistry between Forlani and Pitt.

The interaction between Pitt and Hopkins is also powerful. Hopkins slowly starts to show his anger with Joe for spending time with his daughter. Pitt reacts casually as he dismisses Hopkins objections. Bill (Hopkins) uses some strong language with Joe, which seems to have no effect other than to have Joe warn Bill to be careful. Later, Joe (Pitt) finally gets irritated with Bill, slams his fist down and says firmly "Enough! I know what I want and what I want is Susan." It's the first time Joe as death shows any sort of hostile emotion. This scene was a great demonstration of two powerful actors in verbal conflict. Very impressive how Pitt held his own against Hopkins in a battle over Susan!

Movie Review: One of His Best Movies
Summary: 5 Stars

I've watched a lot of movies in my time and especially watched the career of Brad Pitt. If you want to see one of the most intriguing -- and most likely -- difficult roles he's ever performed, watch this movie. It is funny, surprising, compassionate, angry and moving. I've seen it at least a dozen times and it gets me everytime.

I think this movie is a great idea and perspective on life and the possibility of living our last days in a totally different way. I would totally act like Anthony Hopkins and wouldn't be as prepared as he seemed to be, but would very much welcome someone to accompany me when its time for me to go.

Acted with stunning originality, Pitt delivers, and so does the rest of the cast. I love the reference to peanut butter and am still amazed at the exchange between Mr. Black and the lady in the hospital. I also feel it could have moved just a bit faster in some scenes, but if that is its only detraction, then I still think its one of the best movies around.

Movie Review: Meet Joe Black, a film from another world.
Summary: 5 Stars

This film is really impressive and moving. Yes, it's a long film, -180min- but not like those ones you get tired in the first hour. It's 3 hours of emotional and unpredictable happenings, showing an impressive plot where Brad Pitt, as Joe Black, acts as Death in a human body. His extraordinary performance makes people believe he's really death, what truly frightened me. To top it off, Anthony Hopkings plays Bill Parrish, Clair Forlani's father. She falls in love with Brad Pitt, but she doesn't know almost anything about him, which makes it a very mysterious relationship, mixing life and death, weakness and power. For me, it's the most touchable relationship I have ever seen!

This film, although sometimes funny, will certainly touch you and make tears role down your cheeks, like it happened to me. I can just say that it's fantastic. You can watch it many times and you won't get tired of it, you will just appreciate it even more.

It's certainly my favourite film of all time and really worth seeing.

Movie Review: EXCELLENT MOVIE/Guaranteed to shed a tear!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

Definitely a GREAT movie, Meet Joe Black, brings to the screen the encounter of a dying man with Death, with the latter offering to delay the inevitable in exchange for human experiences and pleasures.
Meet Joe Black is a film about human relations, hope and second chances, but most importantly about trust, love, integrity, and inner strength.
Anthony Hopkins, Brad Pitt, Claire Forlani and the rest of the cast have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are extraordinary to say the least! All the actors, without exceptions, give it their 100% and it really shows (the chemistry is AMAZING)!
The plot, the setting, the dialogues, and the music, are all WONDERFUL!
Very well written and very well presented, the movie is without a doubt worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection!
In conclusion, it is one of those films that gets you and keeps you thinking long after it's over.

Movie Review: Superb
Summary: 5 Stars

As a child the original "Death Takes A Holiday" was a midnight favorite. With that in mind, this film was under close scrutiny. It excelled. If you have ever been love, truly in love, you will be moved to tears by this film. It is breathtaking.

Brad Pitt nailed it and held his own against the great Frederick March. Anthony Hopkins exceeded his predecessor in capturing what a man who has been in control all is life will do when he loses that control. Claire Forlani was amazing when Death asks her who he is and she says "You're Joe." The play of emotions on her face is gut wrenching.

The supporting cast is equally skilled and Marcia Gay Harden is a gem in her role as the oldest daughter who runs her social life the way her father runs his corporations, with the same exacting attention to detail.

If you allow yourself to suspend disbelief and remember when you first truly loved and lost, this film will haunt you.
