Movie Reviews of Meet Joe Black

Movie Review: Surprisingly great movie
Summary: 5 Stars

I will say it up front. I am a Brad Pitt fanatic. Ever since his performance in Kalifornia, I've looked forward the the way he explores and develops a character, sometimes adding very dark undertones that make you think. He does not go for easy solutions.
I hesitated seeing Meet Joe Black because of the awful reviews it got, but I have found that with Brad Pitt movies, ignore the critics. And in this case, they are once again wrong.
No one wants to think of death, let alone their own, and in watching this movie, you are forced to. The issues of letting go, of tidying things up, of being given the chance to do all of that, are raised, as is the very nature of death it/himself. Those who it comes for, and who are ready, see it and welcome it. Those who are not looking for it do not see it coming.
My teenage daughter and I have watched the movie three times, and enjoy it each time.
I think everyone, Pitt fan or not, should see this film. You will laugh, cry, and come away with a lot to think about. The acting by all involved is superb, and the story is allowed to develop without a lot of fanfare and arrows pointing to guide the way. See it!!!

Movie Review: One of my favorite movies
Summary: 5 Stars

If you aren't turned off by the movies length or you you don't mind that the movie doesn't have gratuitous violence, Jackie Chan like stunts, or nude scenes for no apparant reason, you'll more than likely enjoy this movie. It has a great story that is based on an older movie called Death Takes a Vacation. Anthony Hopkins is one of the greatest actors of all time and his role as Bill Parish in this movie only solidifies his reputation. Brad Pitt does a great job of portraying Death. You can actually picture Death (if there was such a person) behaving the way Brad Pitt did in this movie. Claire Forlani did an excellent job of portraying Susan (Bill Parish's daughter and Death's love interest). You could almost feel the love between death and her.
One grip that I do have is that the DVD doesn't contain many extras. It does have an outakes section and Bios on the cast and filmmakers but no commentary or deleted scenes (although with the length of this movie maybe there were no deleted scenes). The movie itself more than makes up for this though. So if you don't mind buying a DVD that does have many extras this movie is definitely worth it.

Movie Review: Tragically overlooked - masterful performances!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm a huge movie buff and find myself partial to dramatic, personal performances. MJB wasn't the blockbuster event when released and I believe, as many of you, this film has been tragically overlooked. Luckily, it seems to have resurfaced and grown some new legs.

The dialogue is mysterious, cryptic and haunting to say the least. Your heart will tear and heal several times. The storyline paces you through the dynamic, father/daughter relationship, our own inevitable mortality, and several, classic displays of integrity.

Anyone who has a strong sense of self and a sincere hope that good things come to deserved people will enjoy where this journey takes you. So many life lessons are front and center through out.

Do yourself a favor if you've not taken this one in yet- rent it, buy it. Invest a couple hours with Tony and Co. Soak up the conversations, the scenery and watch the magic unfold. Unlike so much of the superficial, over commercialized excuses for movies we subject ourselves to - this one is a treat. If you do it right - the message will resonate for a long, long time.

Movie Review: Meet death...on vacation
Summary: 5 Stars

Interesting movie with a different twist. Not your everyday movie. Death(Brad Pitt)comes to take the life of Bill(Anthony Hopkins) and is so overcome with his life he decides to take a closer look. So he lowers himself to a man, taking the identity of Joe Black and moves into Bill's life, business, home and family. And as long as he'll share life with death, death will allow him to live. Death gets more than he bargains for when he falls deeply in love with Bill's younger daughter Susan (Claire Forlani)and finds himself feeling every human emotion including love, sex, sorrow, success and even compassion. Death learns of a love you can not go through life with out, of life fullfilled without regrets...what will he do now....watch this incredible movie about love, success, romance, power and compassion and find out for yourself. In a touching hospital scene Joe Black says he is not the devil or evil. He is from the otherside an angel of death. The entire cast was perfect. I enjoyed this movie and bought the DVD version. Treat yourself to a good movie...long but moves right along. Worth your time.

Movie Review: His name is Joe......Joe black
Summary: 5 Stars

Meet Joe Black is as refreshing as a drought of cold water. Its a beautiful romance without getting stale and leaving the watcher unbemused.
Brad Pitt is man whose body is taken by death in order to view life as a human, and finds love and acceptence instead of the fear and dread he has known his whole life. A love that he is reluctent to give up, but knows can never be fully fulfilled.

Anthony Hopkins plays the man who death picks to be his guide, the more he keeps the uncaring death interested, the more time he gains on his life, one that is rapidly shortening. Claire Forlani is the woman that Joe falls in love with, although she is blind to who he really is, she loves him for who she thinks he is and why.

Its a move celerbrating life and death, and the connecting line that seperates us from both, what is true love and the unselfish lengths it will go to if it is indeed true.

Meet Joe Black is so much more than a film about Romance, instead, it is a beautifully told fable about what how one's mans desires can shape the future of those surrounding him.
