Movie Reviews of Matilda (Special Edition)

Movie Review: Good For All Ages
Summary: 5 Stars

What does a young eight year old girl do when her uncaring mother and crook father doesn't care about her? become super smart by reading non-stop and gain super powers!

Matilda is one of those old stories. She grew up as a misfit in her family, being very smart she took care of herself, but found a love for reading she traveled between her home and the library everyday until she was able to go to school.

Her family, one mother uncaring and I would even go so far as saying self-absorbed person, and with a father that is a cheat and a swindler doesn't care for her, thus she is left to fend for herself.

Only by luck her one dream comes true, to go to school, mind you its not the 'best' school in the world since its run by the most evil principle in the world, There she meets and befriends her teacher, a sweet woman named Miss Honey.

The story follows that even a child that might have been born into a cruel and uncaring family, can turn out to be one of the most sweeties and smarties girls in the school.

With jokes and prat falls for everyone to know and understand, Matilda is truly a family friendly movie and I would recommend it for anyone that would like a feel good Happy ending kinda movie for there kids that doesn't have any real type of heavy violence.

It truly is very enjoyable for all ages.

Movie Review: Book is awesome, movie is better!
Summary: 5 Stars

It is rare for movies based on books to be as good as the books they're based on. It is even rarer for movies based on books to be better than the books. "Matilda" is one of these ultra-rarities. They added a whole bunch of stuff to the plot to make it movie-length, which is usually a recipe for disaster, but in this case they made such a fun story in the exact spirit of the book, that they actually improved on the story! And Mara Wilson... nobody could have fitted the Matilda role better, in my opinion.

There are so many good things to say about this story. It's fun for children, and there are many adults who can understand growing up as a nerd in a family full of Luddites, or at least be able to sympathize with having to deal with Luddites in their life. Ms. Trunchbull is also the perfect personification of an overbearing authority which is only out for its own needs and not for the needs of the people "beneath" that authority. The Trunchbull is exaggerated, but there are sadly far too many people in the education system who, like her, either don't like children or otherwise do not have the temperament or skills to be teaching children, a fact that always makes the ending a little bittersweet for me.

All in all, an excellent movie. I would give it 6 stars if I could.

Movie Review: A Gifted Child, A Caring Teacher, and an Odious Child-Hating School Principal
Summary: 5 Stars

If you are a teacher or student who would like to get back vicariously at an unfair school principal, this movie is especially for you. The principal in this movie, Agatha Trunchbull, is worse than a martinet: She is diabolically mean, even reminiscent of some of the SS women in charge of the defenseless prisoners at Nazi-German concentration camps during WWII.

Eight-year old prodigy Matilda had been the offspring of parents who had no time for her. They cared only about money and pleasure. Her father was a proudly-dishonest used-car dealer, about to be busted by the FBI. She basically raised herself. When entering school, Matilda met her 2nd-grade teacher, Miss Honey, and soon showed that she was years ahead of all the other students in terms of academic skills. This teacher appreciated her talents and her increasingly-obvious magical skills, took her under her wing, and became her closest friend. Miss Honey exhibited a decidedly different vision of school teaching, and childrens' needs, than did the principal. Miss Honey was no less afraid of the principal than the children of that school.

So how to deal with the indifferent parents and the horrible child-hating principal? Watch this hilarious movie and you will be entertained and surprised.

Movie Review: I'm ony rating the movie
Summary: 5 Stars

This film is definitely one of the best children's movies of all time.
The story is entertaining, heart-warming, sinister and funny all at the same time (only the mind of Roald Dahl could write a book that encompasses those four characteristics into one story).
The acting is phenomenal. Danny Devito may not look like the father described in the book, but the attitude hits the nail on the head. He is rude, pig-headed, and brilliant to watch. Mara Wilson is a brilliant portrayal of the magickal bookworm, and is very convincing for a young actress. Pam Ferris is the most amazing choice to play the role of Miss Trunchbull, as she is the spitting image of the character that appears in the minds eye whilst reading, and in the Quentin Blake illustrations, plus she is suitably over-powering and cruel. And Embeth Davidzt is a breath of fresh air as the beautiful, lovely Miss Honey.
The parts of the movie that are not in the book are well thought out and really exciting to watch, especially in the scene where Matilda and Miss Honey have snuck into the Trunchbull's house, and are trying desperately to escape. I can actually feel myself gritting my teeth as I watch it.
This movie is fantastic to watch, and I have never got tired of it.

Movie Review: Cute Movie
Summary: 5 Stars

Matilda is a fantastic kids movie, with good acting and a great story that is based off the book by Roald Dahl who was a fantastic children's author.

The movie is about a young girl who is very bright and wants to learn, but unfortunatly is saddled with parents who are uncaring and completely emotionally unattached to their daughters needs. Eventually she talks them into letting her go to school, and they enroll her in a private school run by Miss. Trunchbull, a sadistic authoritarian who wants nothing to do with children, other then ordering them around like soilders.

Matilda befriends her teacher, Miss Honey, and through a series of aggrivations Matilda finds that she has telekenetic powers. In the end, she puts The Trunchbull in her place and leaves her uncaring parents to live in a happier and more loving enviorment.

The movie is a great one for children, even young children enjoy this movie. It really isn't that scary, and what scaryness there is, has a lot of humor through it. The music in this movie is really great as well, it includes the song "Send Me On My Way" by Rusted Root that is an extremly catchy and fun song.
