Movie Reviews of Masterpiece Theatre: Northanger AbbeyMovie Review: wonderful adaptation Summary: 5 StarsWhile I also liked the previous BBC adaptation of Northanger, this one is equally good. The script, the casting, the acting, the music all combine to a lovely movie worthy of Austen. Particularly fetching is the actress playing Catherine Morland. She looks like a young Kate Beckinsdale (shades of her great adaptation of Emma -- much superior to the insipid one with Paltrow) and I hope to see her again and again. The actress playing Mrs Allen is no other than the one who played Fanny Price in the previous BBC adaptation of Mansfield Park - which I also thought was very good. I also liked the girl who played Isabella, though I think she was a little too likeable and less of a flirt than she was in the novel and in the previous BBC adaptation.
Movie Review: Very Good, Made me re-read the novel - just to remember nuances Summary: 4 StarsWay too short as in condensed a bit, but captured the essentials of Jane Austen's "Northanger Abbey". I just finished re-reading "Northanger Abbey" due to viewing this version. Fine performances by actors portraying Henry Tilney (J.J. Field), Catherine Morland (Felicity Jones), Isabelle Thorpe and all the rest.
Movie Review: Northanger Abbey Summary: 4 StarsContinuing in the wonderful BBC tradition of period productions this is just another fine example of Jane Austen's written word made for viewing. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it to the Austenites.
Movie Review: Fantastic Production! Summary: 5 StarsThis is a wonderful adaptation of one of Austen's best novels. The young cast is excellent, and portray their characters superbly. Utterly convincing and enjoyable. I will never grow tired of this dvd! Highly recommended.
Movie Review: Best version yet Summary: 5 StarsThis is the best of the new adaptations of Jane Austen's novels. It sticks to the story, is well done, the actors are good and the costumes are beautiful. They got it right on this one!
