Movie Review: THE HANDMAIDEN OF THE LORD
Summary: 5 Stars
Historically speaking, we know very little about Mary, the Mother of Jesus. With only a few minor mentions in scripture, Mary has remained a stoic symbol of the greatest of maternal love. In this reverent and sincere version produced by Eunice Shriver and her son Bobby, MARY's story is filled in plausibly and benefits from a marvelous performance from Pernilla August as the adult Mary. Interesting suppositions include the stories told to a young Jesus that eventually end up being the parables He teaches his followers in his later years. Christian Bale makes an austere and handsome Christ, but since the story is focusing on Mary, Christ's passion is dealt with almost surreptitiously, serving only as a background to how his Mother must face this devastating loss. In a time when commercialized Christmas films like CHRISTMAS WITH THE KRANKS and SURVIVING CHRISTMAS flood the market, it's nice to see a movie in which the true meaning of Christmas is brought to front.Movie Review: my baby

i have always thought Jesus's life was so limited in the stories, i have seen. if he was sent here to live as we lived, and feel as we did,then he had to have close personal relationships with his family and freinds, as we did when we grew up. i as a mother wanted to know how a mother could go through just standing by and watching people be mean to her baby,a baby that God had given her personally. she and Jesus would have had to be very close, so his every pain was hers, all through this movie my heart was crying out silently for her....my baby.... thats my baby, GOD PLEASE HELP HIM!!!!because our children remain our babies, no matter how old they are. i thought it was wonderfully portrayed from a loving mothers heart. i adored itMovie Review: A Mothers Heart

I've seen numerous movies about the Life of Jesus but I haven't seen any movie that shows Jesus and his Mother in such intense moments about the love that was seen in the video between a Mother and her Son.I've watched it so far 3 times. I bought an extra video to offer to those that may want to watch it also. Its a must see movie but I have to tell you to keep the kleenexs near by.If this movie doesn't touch your Heart then you'll have to ask yourself if you know what real Love is. The movie displayed the importance that Mary played in the Life of Jesus. She helped give him direction as a child and when he was unsure before his mission she moved him to be baptized by his cousin John. Jesus felt that women played an important role in religious life; for mothers bring up there sons who become priests, good citizens and kind human beings. I felt the movie focused on Mary and her guidance for Jesus whenever he faltered or was uncertain she kept him focused and confirmed what Jesus knew within about his divine mission. They both knew it would not be easy.
After he began his preaching he was fully guided from within.

This is an incredible movie to watch especially as a mother. We watch this movie once a year around Ash Wednesday and I have done this since my kids were 1 and 3 and are now 14 and 16. At one time my younger son was so sad and engrossed with the movie he wanted a "dream catcher" so the thought of the awful things seen as a mother of a child who was tortured so would just go away. I will never forget his true sadness and fear - how the mother of God must have felt! The Schrivers put this film together! Just awesome. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
