Movie Reviews of MartyMovie Review: Late Blooming Romance Summary: 5 Stars
This film is top notch. I can really relate to the main character Marty Paletti as I was in the same position as Marty about 30 years ago. What I think is so beautiful about this film is that you don't think about "star personalites". You feel that these people aren't acting-they are so real. There are so many touching scenes -especially between Marty and his mother. As I also had Italian grandparents the Italian family background was quite familiar to me. I highly recommend this film to those who would like to see an old fashioned romantic picture done simply.
Movie Review: "Dogs like us, we ain't such dogs as we think we are." Summary: 5 Stars
Ernest Borgnine and Betsy Blair as two lonelyhearts who have just about given up on finding romance - until they find each other. Borgnine has to fight off the impulse to remain in his world of seclusion, plus deal with a mother who's afraid of losing him and being alone herself; Blair pulls him out of himself and he comes to his senses. It's a very well done, poignant little drama, with a great feeling for the Bronx of the 1950s, where it's set. Borgnine took an Oscar as did Paddy Chayevsky for the screenplay.
Movie Review: Heartwarming and hopeful Summary: 5 Stars
What a great story! This film captures the very heart of what it is to be lonely, find love, and sacrifice. I fell in love with this movie after one showing. The different elements that are in his life, exaggerate his lonesome life. Although he has a group of friends, they are living the sad, lonely, life as well. I like the fact that this new relationship mirrors his life as to what it is...and he can get a clearer picture of it and make the change. This is a great movie and I highly recommend it.
Movie Review: Marty Summary: 5 Stars
Written by the vastly talented Paddy Chayefsky, who'd go on to script "Network" two decades later, "Marty" is a sweet, perceptive film about two lost souls who finally find each other. Borgnine, a skilled character actor and supporting player, won the Best Actor Oscar in 1955 over several more photogenic leading men, and the film itself--a playhouse gem from television's golden age--won for Best Picture, Director, and Screenplay. A unique and irresistible film romance.
Movie Review: Pure and Simple... Summary: 5 Stars
This is definately one of my favorite movies; a real little gem of a story told simply and directly. No car chases, no dirty jokes, no technicolor; just the pure and simple human drama of every day American life. The characters are so lovable that you won't mind repeated viewings. In my case, they actually remind me of people from my own neighborhood and family. This movie can also be considered an historical 1950s American cultural and media artifact.
