Movie Reviews of Marriage on the RocksMovie Review: Sinner Man Summary: 5 Stars
I went into this movie with lowered expectations. The instant easy swing of a classic Nelson Riddle tune during the opening credits lowered my defenses, and that's where they stayed throughout. The premise is fairly fun, in a standard 60's comedy manner, with real-life swinger Sinatra playing a square who, circumstances intervening, becomes a bit of swinger and real-life square Martin playing, oh the surprise, a swinger who, circumstances intervening becomes a bit of a square. Ha ha and that's it for the often great, often slight screen collaboration of Sinatra-Martin. Deborah Kerr plays the conservative housewife who yearns for marital romance and receives it, in the end, in a traditionally unliberated, but happy, manner. OK, fine. Character vets Kathleen Freeman (cool enough to play both sides of the Lewis-Martin squabble) is underused here, as is John McGiver. Note a quick appearance of DeForest Kelley (a year prior to becoming "Bones"). As he did in Ocean's 11, Cesar Romero provides excellent spark and it is his comic skill which permits the weakest plotting of the movie (the quickie divorce/marriage biz south of the border) to pass unharmed. Nancy Sinatra is totally cute. Martin is just about dressed for his subsequent round of Matt Helm flicks. And, yeh, the best laugh of all goes to Sinatra, the sight of him doing the disco frug is unwarranted hilarity. Charming little movie, quite underrated.
Summary of Marriage on the RocksWhat do you do when you have a beautiful house two great children and a Marriage on the Rocks? If you're bored Val Edwards (Deborah Karr) you swap your fuddy-duddy hubby Dan (Frank SInatra) for his swingin' bachelor best friend Ernie (Dean Martin) - and watch the spraks fly. Ol' Blue Eyes breezes through this romantic comedy romp at the head of an all-star cast. Along for the laughs are frequent Sinatra co-stars Martin Cesar Romero and Tony Bill plud daughter Nancy Sinatra and Kerr. The fun starts when the Edwards take a second honeymoon in Mexico and fall into the hands of the quickie-divorce/quickie-marriage lawyer Romero. Faster then jumping beans everybody's unhitched rehitched confused confounded and cohabitating. But Dan has the right attitude. "We had a bad marriage" he says. "Let's have a happy divorce!"Running Time: 109 min.Format: DVD MOVIE Genre: COMEDY/CLASSICS UPC: 085393337223 Manufacturer No: 1000012252
