Movie Reviews of Man on FireMovie Review: A Top Notch Thriller Summary: 5 Stars
This intense action thriller is great from start to finish.
It features Denzel Washington as Creasy, a burnt out alcoholic ex-CIA agent type. He has gotten to the point where he is just existing and does not seem to see much point in living. His friend gets him a job as a bodyguard to a young girl, Pita (Dakota Fanning), in kidnapping capital Mexico City.
Although he clearly views it as just a job and wants no conversation or other personal involvement, she starts to grow on him and he warms to her.
She ends up getting kidnapped. Creasy is wounded during the kidnapping. While he is recovering, he finds out that a ransom exchange went bad and it becomes clear that Pita's abductors plan to kill her. Creasy becomes totally fixed on revenge against anyone who was involved. He functions like he is half Jack Bauer and half Dirty Harry. Needless to say, the action is constant. Not only is there a lot of violence and excitement, there is also a good human story about the father-like relationship Creasy develops with Pita.
This is really a great flick, but probably not one for those who are too squeamish about violence
Movie Review: Finally They Found Out How To Grow Out of 'Die Hard' Summary: 5 Stars
If you want big words and for someone to ruin the movie for you, read a review by one of these other nerds...
Its about time they made a film like this that does'nt get tired of itself halfway through and race to a predicatable end. 'Man On Fire' is hot, from start to finish. Man, its' fast, unpredicatable, loud, surreal and REAL. Every gunshot, every tear, every character and its' purpose I mean EVERYthing works in this movie...only the best from Denzel Washington is a given this guy does'nt know how to give a bad performance.
The story is as real as it its' portrayed to be, kidnapping is as big a small buisness down there as the UPS drop box is in America...And Tony Scott takes corruption de policia, surrogate families and the great American hero to the next level in this riviting crime drama. Its' not 2 hours of explosions and catch-phrases so don't worry, it strays far from that path with a gripping story, I don't know HOW this little girl learned to act so well, and if it does'nt ruin anything the movie is based on one out of a hundred true stories. 'Man On Fire' is a DVD worth your while, you'll watch it more than once I promise.
Movie Review: Soul Stirring Summary: 5 Stars
I loved this movie. My take on it:
Creasy is a man of faith, and somewhere along the way felt he had somehow greived God's spirit. He felt despair and drank to rid himself of these feelings. He summed up these feelings when he asked his good friend, "do you think God will forgive us for what we've done?" and his friend said "No".
At this point, in his greatest despair, GOD started to give him some signs that he had not greived HIS spirit. (The bullet not working, the Mother Mary at the school's comments to him about his purpose, his comment about him being the lost sheep. The bullet holes in his hands that must of protected him in the past.) All show God has been with him and was now calling him to a greater purpose. He saw this purpose. God heard the cries of the people saying "Enough of these kidnappings, God when are you going to help us?"
We see Creasy find his faith again and his redemption. What greater sacrifice can one give than his own life for anothers? He died knowing and feeling GOD's presence and peace.
GREAT MOVIE!!!
Awesome!!!!!
Soul Stirring.
Movie Review: Powerful, in a nutshell Summary: 5 Stars
It is a violent movie but for those who understood the attachment between Peta and Creasey the violence was if not justified understandable. Its a very stylistic movie, it spans the extremes of happiness and despair. Early in the movie Creasey puts a gun to his head and it misfires, his life is spared. He would later give the bullet to Peta's father saying a bullet always tells the truth. A depressed Creasey will come to love the infectious personality of Peta and this will later drive him to get her back. The bland colors of Mexico city juxtapose dramatically with the many explosions later in the movie. Its a movie about vengence but moreso its about heart, about passion and love between the two stars. The music is great, perfectly in sync with the lows and highs of the movie. Its a powerful movie, and greatly underapretiated if all you can see is the violence. Almost all of the violence is justified to disband a corupt system except for the kidnapping of the girl, its not a violence for violences sake type of movie. Creasey indeed is the good guy and the corrupt cops the bad guys. I recommend it highly, you will be moved.
Movie Review: Buckle Up!! But Don't Overlook the Softer Side Summary: 5 Stars
"I'm going to do what I do best. I'm going to kill them all."
So begins Creasy's (Washington's) quest for revenge and annihilation of a kidnapping ring that has created havoc and misery in Mexico City.
Creasy's passion is due to the kidnapping of a young girl he was guarding, Pita. Her presence in his life has transformed this one-time assassin from attempted suicide and whiskey drinker to a man who appreciates life and reads the Bible.
The story is thrilling and from the begining has a high level of suspense. It is incredibly violent, as it shows the cruelty of the kind of people that prey on children and their parents. The revenge Creasy takes is equally violent but seems reasonable for those kind of people.
In the midst of the violence is redemption for Creasy and salvation for others. The subject of this movie is disturbing but it is very well done I think. The supporting characters are all played well, and Washington offers a very convincing performance.
Definitely entertaining! If you like action, watch this one.
