Movie Reviews of Man on FireMovie Review: exceptionally great revenge movie Summary: 5 Stars
i love good ol' revenge movies and this one was a great one. starts off slow as it should be, developing the relationship between creasy, the bodyguard, and pita, the little girl he is watching over. it shows how a man who was at his ready to end it all can find what he has lost in life, then when he finds it, someone takes it away.
the performances were amazing. dakota fanning and denzel washington pretty much made this movie what it was. you couldn't help but love the little girl as creasy grew to love her. the entire relationship between the two was unbelievably realistic.
the first half of the movie is basically the developement of this relationship, but when the sh*t hits the fan, it really hits the fan hard. it gets insanely violent extremely fast and doesn't let up for quite a while. it was quite refreshing to see such violence for all of the right reasons.
my favorite quote from the movie is a very unusual one, but only one man could really carry it off without sounding like a joke. the line was spoken by christopher walken and said "creasy's art is death and he is about to paint his masterpiece." how can anyone say that with a straight face and have others take him seriously? well christopher did it without a problem.
the music was right on. they use a piece from a nine inch nails song that just really fit well. the entire score was just perfect.
overall, great movie, i highly recommend to anyone who loves revenge thrillers
Movie Review: Another drop-dead gorgeous performance by the great Denzel Washington Summary: 5 Stars
Definately one of my favorite films of all time. I stumbled upon this masterpiece while in serious need of having my faith in the magic of Hollywood replenished. After being dissapointed by many of Hollywood's latest titles sporting unrealistic situations and unbelievable special effects I was more than satisfied with this marvelous jewel of a film. I could tell you that the film is intended for mature audiences but that's what ratings are for. I could tell you that this film is graphically violent but it is an essential ingredient of the gripping storyline and marvelous story-telling.
The film is not only made spectacular by magnificent performances by some of Hollywood's elite but the captivating editing techniques used manage to get right down to the nitty-gritty of a good revenge flick. The originality of subtitling techniques allows one to feel more in touch with a language spoken during the film that one might not understand. A brillinat soundtrack gives one an emotional attachment to the situations and the environment the story is set in. I was deeply moved by this film and I would highly recommend it to anyone, no matter what sort of genre you prefer. This is the type of film that has major re-watch value and one always finds something new to enjoy with each veiwing of this cinematic masterpiece. Bravo, we desparately need more films that can get so in touch with the real-life emotions involved in such relationships as portrayed in this film. Buy this movie now!
Movie Review: Man On Fire = Excellent Summary: 5 Stars
Don't listen to the typical critic reviews about this film. They need to really take a deeper look at the point of the storyline in the movie. Man On Fire was an emotional rollercoaster, but in a good way. The movie is done in such a way that the average person can relate to the characters, the emotions, and the situation a hand.
This movie shows us that people can redeem themselves in more ways than one in life. A former CIA agent named Creasy (Denzel Washington) was shown by a little girl named Pita (Dakota Fanning) that it was ok to live again. By being Pita's bodyguard, Creasy was able to form a bond with Pita and let down his walls to see that there was a meaning to life again. When Pita is kidnapped, he did what most people would want to do, get revenge. Fantastic acting of both of these characters make it that much more of an intense storyline.
Even though there was alot of violence, it was valid. If the ending does not make you cry, it will get you choked up. It is a true example of unconditional love. It will open your eyes and give you something to think about.
On one last note, i actually enjoyed the score, it seems somewhat similar to Gladiator, but it does suit the scenes in the movie. I agree with some people that the flashbacks can get a bit confusing, but the movie is pretty good at attention grabbing so it won't be a problem to figure out whats happening. Overall, excellent movie and acting, it deserves more recognition.
Movie Review: Superb Summary: 5 Stars
Just because a movie stars cute little Dakota Fanning does not mean it will be family fare. Man on Fire is incredibly dark and violent, leading you into the underground world of organized kidnappings in Mexico City.
Denzel Washington is John Creasey, an ex-operative who is now an admitted alcoholic. He takes a job protecting a wealthy young couple's little girl named Pita (Fanning). Pita breaks through Creasey's tough exterior and gives him a reason to live. Now I know what you are thinking. This sounds so Pollyanna-ish. Lord help me, it is not.
Pita is kidnapped. The drop of the ransom money is compromised, as a third party, not related to the kidnappers, steals the ransom. When the girl's mother begs the "voice" on the phone to spare Pita, he says it is too late.
So begins Creasey's one-man war on the corrupt order of Mexican police know as El Hermandad (The Brotherhood). He wants to kill everyone remotely involved in Pita's abduction and murder.
Kidnappings, or "secuestros" are a real problem in Latin America. Everyone knows the police down there are highly corrupt, and this movie is bold in that it is not afraid to be politically incorrect.
Performances all around are superb. Even the guys who are about to die at Creasey's hand - you really feel they are going through this incredible emotion.
Movie Review: ONE OF THE GREATEST MOVIES EVER - WITH SOME CAVEAT Summary: 5 Stars
I WATCHED THIS MOVIE YESTERDAY ON DVD AND ALTHOUTH IT IS A LONG MOVIE, I COULDN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF THIS MOVIE FOR A SECOND. WOW! WHAT A MOVIE! I HAVE TO LET THE PUBLIC KNOW, HOWEVER THAT THIS IS A VERY VIOLENT MOVIE. IT IS GORY, IT IS RAW, IT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE!
I WILL NOT GIVE AWAY THE STORY IN THE MOVIE OR THE ENDING BUT, I'LL SAY THIS: THIS IS A WELL MADE, WELL THOUGHT-OUT, WELL WRITTEN AND WELL ACTED MOVIE (ACTUALLY, YOU WILL BE PLESANTLY SURPRISED AS I WAS TO FIND THAT ONE OF THE ACTORS IN THE MOVIE, MARC ANTHONY, WHO IS BETTER KNOWN AS A SINGER, ACTED VERY WELL IN THIS MOVIE.
MY ONLY TROUBLE WITH THIS MOVIE, HOWEVER IS THE WAY THAT MEXICO CITY IS PORTRAYED, I THOUGHT IT WAS PORTRAYED LIKE A PLEASANT, BEAUTIFUL PLACE, FULL OF GARDENS AND CRISP CLEAN AIR WHERE KIDNAPPINGS JUST HAPPEN TO HAPPEN. WELL, I VISITED MEXICO CITY BACK IN 1978 AND THE PLACE WAS, TO PUT IT MILDLY, A PESTILENT MESS. IT WAS THE UGLIEST, DIRTIEST, MOST POLUTED AND DANGEROUS PLACE I HAVE EVER VISITED IN MY LIFE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THAT NOW, 26 YEARS LATER, THINGS HAVE GOTTEN WORSE!
NOT ALL MEXICO IS A SEWER AND MOST MEXICAN PEOPLE ARE VERY HARD WORKING PEOPLE, BUT MEXICO CITY IS A SEWER AND WILL BE FOR MANY YEARS TO COME.
BACK TO THE MOVIE - I ONLY HOPE THAT HOLYWOOD CONTINUES TO MAKE ENTERTAINING MOVIES LIKE THIS IN THE FUTURE!
