Movie Review: Before Brokeback Mountain.....
Summary: 5 Stars
After years of homosexuals in movies being portrayed as evil and disturbed, 1982's "Making Love" attempted to tell an honest and realistic story of a married man who discovers he is gay and the effect that it has on his marriage and his life. The story is so completely absorbing and moving and one cannot help but shed tears at the bittersweet ending. The acting is first rate by all three leads; Kate Jackson, Harry Hamlin, and Michael Ontkean, all very brave actors for doing this film when many others were afraid to touch it. Unfortunately, the film was not appreciated because the public wasn't ready for it. I have friends that tell stories of mass hysteria in the theater during the love scene between the two men; people screaming, storming out of the theater, etc. How ridiculous and sad.
"Brokeback Mountain" and "Making Love" have many similarities, but one major difference. "Making Love" goes as far to say that gay people can find love and be happy. As a teenager, desperate to find people to identify with, this was a message I needed to hear. I'm so glad that the film has been released on DVD so more people can experience it. It's a film that, after 24 years, I still hold very dear to my heart.
Movie Review: " A Beautiful Love Story"

Way before "Brokeback Mounatin" proved that a love story between 2 men could work in Hollywood "Making Love" was a movie that explored the topic. Wonderfully produced and acted "Making Love" has not aged. The story is what carries the film as a young doctor, who is married, comes to terms with his hidden homosexuality when he meets a patient who is out. Two types of gay men are explored in this film; the dedicated relationship type and the more promiscuous kind. You really feel for all the characters in the film as the subject matter is still one that many in the world find themselves in.
The movie itself was rare for many years and now it finally has a home on DVD. The film is presented in widescreen format and comes with the trailer. It is beautifully restored. The movie is the first Hollywood film to depict homosexuality in a positive light. Sit back and enjoy a true love story where there are really no winners.
Movie Review: Meeting an Angel and great Star
Summary: 5 Stars
I had the pleasure of meeting Kate when she turned 50. What an amazingly beautiful lady with a lot of class. She spent a half hour signing and discussing her career. A dream come true. Being a gay man coming out in the early 80's this movie gave me validation. Knowing how it ends it is so touching. I thanked Kate for this movie and told her how much her doing it--as my favorite Angel now gone movie star--ment to me. You will enjoy the plot and think on this. It was one of the first movies to takle this taboo issue, yes even back then it paved the way for today's Brokeback Mountain. I am so glad to finally get the chance to get a copy on DVD. Gay or straight if you want to gather compassion and understanding for someone or yourself that you love and need clarification on your feelings this is a great way to start folks. God Bless. This movie made a huge impact on the course of my life. If I hadn't seen it upon it's 1982 theatrical release I most likely would have come out of the closet anyway, but the sensitive portrayals here (from actor to writer to director) made it easier for me to confront myself before making some huge life mistakes. Since there are so many gay themed movies and tv shows around nowadays I don't know if this film could have the same impact on any young gay people now as it did on me then, but I'm greatful that it's being made available so that at least those of us who saw it and were touched deeply by it once upon a time can relive a very sweet memory.

Movie Review: The Wait is Over!

I have been waiting YEARS for this film to come out, and when I finally searched and saw its tentative release, I let out a loud "Finally!"
This is the first movie I saw that addressed homosexuality without the characters being steretypical flambouyant comedy sidekicks. The three main actors brought a major sense of realism and respect to a, at the time, taboo subject. Michael Onkean and Kate Jackson shine as the married couple torn apart by Onkean's voyage of self-discovery.
This is a must-have for gay and straight alike. This is the one that paved the way for other reality based movies on the subject of gay life...not to be missed! Way to go Fox Studios!
