Movie Reviews of Madonna - Truth or Dare

Movie Review: A brilliant chronicle of a superstar's worldwide tour
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first saw this film in 1991 in a packed NYC theater, the reaction of the crowd was extraordinary. It was as if we were all at a sold-out concert together..and had front row seats. The level of excitement and kinetic energy in the audience was unforgettable. This is a completely over the top chronicle of the biggest and best tour of Madonna's career so far. And who cares how manipulative or staged some of it might seem... it's the close-up peeks at offstage life that this film allows that are half the fun, real or not. The other half of the fun are the truly genius concert clips, impeccably filmed. It becomes abundantly clear why Madonna has been world-famous for nearly 20 years. Some may think her career is based on smoke and mirrors, but the level of professionalism, talent and energy she exudes on stage make the case for her longetivity. Get this one on DVD...with the lights out and the surround sound cranked up...your adrenaline will be racing...this is one of the best concert films ever made.

Movie Review: Fantastic--best rockumentary ever
Summary: 5 Stars

I watched this straight throught twice to catch every word--and I rarely watch any movie twice, let alone back to back viewings. Madonna is smart, savvy, talented, and hard working. I wish I'd known how much she puts into her shows, because after seeing this I would love have to seen her blond ambition tour. Unlike other rock stars who are just dragged from a limo and poured on the stage for their sets, then leave, Madonna puts on a full scale performance, with lights, costumes, drama, and great singing. The physical and emotional stress of doing this on a world tour, is evident from this movie. Madonna shows many facets--her vulnerability, her having to be tough, the respect she commands as a star and the lack of respect she gets because she's a woman--there's nobody like her. The family visits are interesting, and best of all, Warren Beatty, like a aging vampire shrinking from the lights, hanging around complaining and sparring with Madonna. This is simply fascinating, and I really admire Madonna now.

Movie Review: Spectacular and intriguing
Summary: 5 Stars

As with everything Madonna does, it sets out to be thought-provoking and honest. This documentary is an insight into the world of Madonna on the road and in between, looking at other aspects of her life and personality.
It shows her as a brazen and self absorbed personality, as with all great performers, but you also get to see a very vunerable human behind this exterior.
It's a great idea, especially for an artist such as Madonna, because she's a very interesting artist and performer.
She may come across as self-indulgent and narcisstic, but she's every bit a stunning and talented performer.
Madonna is often complex and often contradictory, I think she had a lot of irony in mind when the concept of this documentary was thought up, but it shows Madonna at her very peak as an artist, a decade where she wasn't afraid to say and do what she pleased. It's essential for every Madonna fan and for any casual fan interested in knowing more and observing her as a performer and personality.

Movie Review: Are you filming this! Are you!
Summary: 5 Stars

Come on now...how can someone possibly review this and stay partial? Of course fans of Madonna are going to say what a fabulous queen she is and unenlightend folks are going to qawk at her every stunning move and proclaim that "Truth or Dare" is the most boring and trashy thing they have ever seen in their life ...have they seen a Mariah Carey perfomance? Well the truth is that "Truth or Dare" is not boring and that Madonna is really that fabulous! Would we want to see anyone else go on a rampage when their microphone screws up? Would we want to see anyone else recall their first sexual experience in detail and watch the guiltly sqirm in her pants? Would we want to watch anyone else dis Kevin Costner-oh scratch that one...nevertheless NO! We want Madonna. Sure she has her moments that make you want to slap her(or fall at her feet) but who doesn't! Madonna (unfortunatly) is only human and so are we...and that is why we love watching her...

Movie Review: Awesome! - Nothing Like It !!!
Summary: 5 Stars

At a time where Madonna was at the top, I thought it was very courageous of her to let you into her personal life even if it was such a "high life" a lot of us cannot understand what that must feel like but after seeing this my whole attidude towards the lady changed! It show's how a female star at the age of 32 has TOTAL control of her life not to mention a talent that far exceeds anything i've ever heard or seen! I have seen the entire concert and was left breathless at the end of it! Her opening rendition of "Express Yourself" is the best live performance I have ever seen and the song wasn't even one of my favorites! the costumes and the coriography is amazing (for its time)
The only thing I didn't get was what she was doing with Warren Beatty? Glad she got over that one quickly!
Highly recommend this.
What other artist do you know that has had the courage to do a similar thing?
