Movie Reviews of Madonna - Truth or Dare

Movie Review: Madonna, peak perhaps?
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok, I have to be honest...I love this movie. It is beautifully shot and directed. The colors and the black and white are beautifully balanced. It is totally fun to watch. Even if you dont like the woman, the end product is very enjoyable. You have to remember, at this particular time in pop culture, the early 90's, Madonna did indeed rule. She had really come into her own as an icon and a great star. The artiface of the 80's was something I really enjoyed as a teen. But as I became an adult, it was always interesting to watch her. Ok, so maybe she really wasnt the best actress. But at that time she was the one star that was able to turn all that plastic into something really worth paying attention to. And this film showed her at her finest. Even if you didnt like her, you couldnt help but pay attention to her. Watching this movie now makes me yearn for those days. She really was the last "great star". We dont have stars like that anymore. Even Spears cant obtain that grandure. That white hot heat of celebrity. She really had it then more so then any other famous person on the planet. Of course, it has faded. Madonna now seems like King Kong. So watching this film now takes you back to a time when stars were still really "STARS". She really has become the last "Elvis, Beatles, Monroe, Dean, Taylor". And we do need that. Try to think of a star that has had that much attention in the last ten years. Julia? Gwyneth? Not one. She really is the last great star, and this film shows her at her peak. No one seems to give her that. It is at once fascinating and irritating. You want to know more, yet you feel you've seen too much. She has never been so honest and so vacuous on film before or since. It is a documentary of a modern star at her peak. It's a glimpse of the American dream. It's a peak at a life very few of us will ever see... Now, how many of those do you see every day? This is a great rock film. It is sublime. It sets the bar for every female entertainer after her. This film is Madonna at her peak, her best, her pinnacle. It is "the" Madonna film. I couldnt suggest it more...

Movie Review: Brains separate Madonna from the copycat gaga type girls
Summary: 5 Stars

This video is just Madonna making you think you're getting a backstage look at her life in a documentary between some awesome Madonna performances. There is no way control freak Madonna let a frame of this video be released without her approval.

It's a really interesting piece of work. Even if you don't care for Madonna's politics, lifestyle, or even the so called documentary parts of the video you will enjoy her performances. It's worth buying just for that.

You get to see Madonna's father and her brother. Her dad comes off as a very normal guy. Her brother comes off as a regular guy that takes full advantage of his sister's fame, cashing in on the chance to pick up chicks. He's not the jealous type and even seems proud of his sister. The kind of guy that doesn't plan his day. He just wakes up and sees what happens.

Notice what a talented speaker Madonna is in this film. Even when she's reading silly things she's written just for a friend's party she is verbally flawless. She even admits that she knows she's not the best singer or dancer. As compared to the current crop of female singing and dancing superstars, with maybe the exception of Beyonce, she's still better. Beyonce had a Madonna to study before her career began. Madonna actually invented a style that a lot of people attempt to copy.

There are some weird scenes. Like the one where Madonna rests her head on her mother's gravestone like a pillow. There is no doubt that she's a very intelligent, hard worker that's in charge of her world and strives for perfection. She surrounds herself with gays, people that just look gay, and very capable yes men that know Madonna's word is rule.

No Madonna fan's collection of Madonna stuff is complete without a copy of "Madonna - Truth or Dare". If you can find a copy, thank your lucky star.

Movie Review: Madonna: Truth Or Dare
Summary: 5 Stars

The ultimate dare is to tell the truth. That's exactly what Madonna dared to do when she signed new director Alek Kishian to follow her and her crew around the world on her 1990 Blonde Ambition Tour. You get to see everything, because basically Madonna had nothing to hide. The viewer gets to see Madonna mouth off with her technical crew, a visit to the throat doctor, her fights with then boyfriend Warren Beatty, how she almost got arrested for a stimulated masturbation scene on-stage for her hit "Like A Virgin," and just hanging out with her friends. This film shows everything. Being a Madonna fan, I loved this movie. Not just because it was about Madonna, but because it was bold, daring, and original considering it was released in 1991. I've never seen a movie like this, and being a movie nut, I liked it because it was different. Every scene is interesting. The film is serious, touching, and at times comical. My favorite part was when Madonna was in bed with her dancers and her backup singers Nicki Harris and Donna Delory. This is a very comical scene...
Along with this great movie you get to see a few numbers from the Blonde Ambition Tour. Full numbers include: "Express Yourself," "Like A Virgin," "Vogue," and "Keep It Together." Snippets include: "Oh Father," "Live To Tell," "Like A Prayer," and "Causing A Commotion." Overall, this is an awesome movie. Every Madonna fan should see this. Even non fans will enjoy. Movie buffs especially will love this!...

Movie Review: A Terrific Film
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a terrific film, an informative and enjoyable look at Madonna on tour, behind the scenes. The concerts she performed required a lot of work, management and coordination, and it was fascinating to see parts of the process.

A lot of people castigate Madonna for her lifestyle, but we all need to keep a few things in mind: No law requires people to buy concert tickets or CDs from Madonna, but that's certainly not the case for public school districts, which merely arrange to tax citizens for whatever they want. There are no laws prohibiting anyone from competing with Madonna, but that's certainly not the case for our magnificent U.S. Postal Service. Madonna will always be funding her own retirement and health benefits programs -- but that's certainly not the case for our Senators/Representatives in Washington, who have bestowed lavish benefits upon themselves with money simply confiscated from taxpayers.

Madonna is a fine artist, along with being a successful free-market capitalist competitor. She has built a fortune for herself by pleasing others, and not causing any problems for anyone else. The truth is, all of us should dare to emulate the personal passion whish has fueled her success.

Movie Review: My name is Madonna, and don't you forget it!
Summary: 5 Stars

Shameless self-indulgence and self-glorification are the overall themes in this documentary of Madonna's life (using her Blonde Ambition Tour as an excuse); but you'll never have as much fun watching anything else. Watching 'Truth or Dare' is like watching a public flasher on the street: you can't believe someone would have the nerve to expose themselves like that, yet you can't keep your eyes off it and be intrigued. Despite the fact that Madonna comes off as a self-absorbed brat, she is never funnier than how she portrays herself here. Who knows (and who cares) whether or not this is the 'real Madonna'; after all, we'll never know the real Madonna. Whereas it would be the height of obnoxiousness to see other stars behave the way Madonna does in this film, for some reason we all seem just as willing to indulge her in her fabulousness as she is willing to. After watching this a few times, I would suggest that you fast-forward through the concert segments to get back to what the film is really about: the most notorious and infamous woman in history shamelessly basking in all her glory.
