Movie Review: set the record straight.
Summary: 4 Stars

I am afraid that some of the reviewers have gotten their facts wrong. My daughter is 3 and sometimes we watch it twice in the same day. In this movie, Madeline is an orphan, but the other girls are not. This is made evident in several scenes. Also it must be a school, not an orphanage, since only Madeline is an orphan. Lord Covington is not the principal, he is the owner.

I have not read the books or seen the cartoons, but I am told that some of the storyline is the basis for several of the books. If that is the case, it has been interwoven wonderfully. Since I haven't read the books, I can't tell exactly where one book stops and the next one begins. As a matter of fact, I can't tell how much time elapses from the beginning to the end, other than I don't remember seeing snow, and I am guessing that it snows in Paris in the winter. I am guessing 3 months max and probably in the spring.

Movie Review: a great film after about fifteen minutes

I'm not a seven year old girl, so it's fair to say I'm probably not the target audience- but the wife is an elementary school librarian, so occasionally I find myself watching a movie I don't believe I'd pick out for myself.

That said, I enjoyed this movie. The first fifteen minutes were a bit hard to watch- this is a live action movie that needs to connect with illustrated classic it was made from - so we get the classic lines from the classic books, which verges on chringe-worthy when Madeline says Pooh-Pooh to the tiger in the zoo.

Once the homage to the book is made, the movie does much better. Frances McDormand makes a wonderful Miss Clavel, Pepito is spot on, and Madeline is quite good.

The hijinks and high spirited goofs are good, and the adventure that caps the movie is, on the main, believable.

Worth watching-

I bought this DVD for my 3 year old neice and she loves it! If you have young relatives, or children of your own, this DVD is great. It is not too long, and it is a great break for any fan of Madeline. My neice Taylor gave this DVD 4 stars! That is better than my recommendation.
