Movie Reviews of Mad MoneyMovie Review: Cute film.... Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This film has a well-rounded cast in a combination I would never have imagined. The story is a fantasy most people have indulged in at one time or another. While it certainly is not the funniest film I have seen; it is humerous enough and well-acted enough to make for an enjoyable film that was far better than one would expect given the critics' point of view upon theratrical release. But as so often is the case; critics seem to be looking for different elements in films than the general public. I found 'Mad Money', cute, enjoyable, light, funny, and now that it is on DVD, a great way to spend an at-home date night or a rainy afternoon alone or with friends sharing an enjoyable film that doesn't tax your brain or make you depressed, it just entertains you, and quite well at that.
Movie Review: This Movie Should Definitely "Tip" Now! Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Hey, since now we're all talking about Freddie Mac and Ginny Mae, this is a movie whose time has come! Are more banks gonna close now?
I have long been a Diane Keaton fan, and here she is in all her glory. It almost brings you back to "Annie Hall." In fact, this film could sort of be "Annie Hall Hits the New Millenium."
Money comes to money, they say. When you've had money and then had to do without it, there can either be rare introspective personal insights and a transformation of the individual's existential position.
Or it can be this movie! Viewed from that perspective, it's delightful.
Say, it's two a.m. - do you know where your money is?
Movie Review: Quirky....Twisted....Entertaining. Summary: 4 Stars
If you can get beyond the totally amoral characters who let justified/rationalized greed run rampant within their lives, you might enjoy this movie. Especially if you are a fan of Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes and/or Ted Danson.
Mad Money is kind of a girlfriend/chick-lit version of Oceans Eleven without all the skill and slickness. The characters pull off the impossible, but it helps that the head of the "bank" is a complete idiot (think single-minded focus stapler guy from Office Space.)
There is clever dialog and there are some fun moments. The movie carries a quirky charm and the actors seem to have a great time with their parts and interaction.
If you can't suspend disbelief you might not want to go there. But if you don't mind a few sexual innuendos, some expletives and the whole moral "why not take it, it's just sitting there?" thought process, you might enjoy the quirky humor.
Movie Review: Great Female Caper Movie Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I really enjoyed Mad Money. Its not your average run of the mill movie. Its a female caper movie based on the premise that three women work in the federal reserve and have found a way to steal the money that is normally shredded and destroyed after its worn out.
The movie is well written and well directed. Diane Keaton, Queen Latifah and Katie Holmes are perfectly cast. Their characters are likeable and you'll find yourself rooting for them. No spoilers here, I won't give away whether they get away with it or not. For that, you'll have to watch the movie yourself.
It was a very enjoyable film that I would recommend to anyone.
Movie Review: Entertaining Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I'd read the terrible reviews about this movie, and knew it flopped in the box office, so I probably wouldn't have seen it if it weren't for the Vine program. No, it's not a fantastic comedy, but it's a pretty entertaining one. It's loosely based on a real case (women who worked for the Central Bank in London, I think, and for years got away with stealing money that was to be destroyed). Katie Holmes, Queen Latifa and Diane Keaton make a good ensemble, and have the support of great actors like Ted Danson. And it's nice to see a film where women have all the lead parts!
