Ever wonder what happens to all the worn out and torn dollar bills in circulation? This film will answer your question ... Diane Keaton stars as Bridget the wife of Dan played by Ted Danson. Don has been out of work for over one year. He was down-sized and out-sized from his company. He announces to Bridget that they are in debt, for $286,000 dollars and may have to sell their house. She advises him, "Think outside the box." His reply," We may have to move into a smaller box." Bridget then starts hunting for jobs. Unfortunately, her skills are few and she is in her mid-to late 50s. She can not even pay her housekeeper for cleaning her house. Her housekeepr gives her the idea to work for the Federal Reserve Bank, located in Kansas City where they live. Bridget is hired into the maintenance department, into a job otherwise known as a "janitor".
After being hired, she is given a tour of how strictly the security department monitors the flow of money which is given to the Federal Reserve Bank by banks who collect the worn and torn money for eventual destruction. It eats at her why all that good money is destroyed and burned. One day, when she is shopping at a Home Depot type store, she makes a great discovery: they sell exactly the same type of locks used by the government. The lock is used on a cart which holds loads of old money ... She devises a cunning plan of how to obtain this "to be destroyed" money for herself - by replacing the lock during her housekeeping rounds - at a crucial moment and later replacing it with the real one, all totally undetected by the cameras. Her only problem is, she can not do this alone. She needs the help of two other employees. She sells her plan to Nina, a black women in her early 30s, a single mother raising two school-aged sons, who could use the money for their education and Jackie, a young 20-something who has a quirky and wacky personality. They succeed beyond their wildest imaginations until ... one of them gets careless and starts spending more than is advisable. After that, the Feds begin monitoring their activities and the real fun begins ...
This is a totally funny and well written plot on a subject near and dear to many people, how to obtain a huge amount of money, without having to work for it. Diane Keaton is a believable middle-to-upper class suburbanite. Nina played by Queen Latifah, is a highly believable black single mother, working hard to make ends meet and build a solid life for herself and her children. Jackie played by Katie Holmes (Mrs. Tom Cruise), is funny and nutty in her role as a twenty-something trailer-living housekeeper for the Federal Reserve Bank. She lives with her boyfriend who is currently unemployed. There are humorous twists and turns after things get fowled up. When the Feds get involved the matters really rock and roll. The conclusion of the film is hilarious as they do indeed "get away with it." Highly recommended summer comedy. Erika Borsos [pepper flower]
