Movie Reviews of Machuca

Movie Review: This moving film will educate you about a dark period in history supported by US foreign Policy
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all this was an excellent film, I would easily rank it as one of the best 10 that I have ever seen. The actors were superb, the film production excellent.

This film tells a heart breaking story through the eyes of two young friends. The story is true, it is about the US supported Military Coup against the democratically elected Government of Socialist Salvador Allende. The film shows how Business and the elite worked together to cause food shortages and misery for the public so that they could overthrow a Government that was supported by the people and the Church.

The film is important because we risk being part of this sort of injustice everyday in the world. Thousands of people were murdered or disappeared after this Coup and as usual the Western powers have not admitted the blood that is on their hands.

Movie Review: The Other 9/11
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie is about the other 9/11--meaning 9/11/73 in Chile. There was a military coup that is little known in the US. The movie gives you the perspective of 2 boys growing up during that time. It is said that the director, Andres Wood, based the movie on his own experience growing up in Santiago. Great movie, great acting, great story. It will leave a print on your heart.

Movie Review: Machuca Review
Summary: 5 Stars

Great film focused on the dictatorship that took place in the country of Chile in the late 1970s. It is a beautifully told story and is an important one to know and understand. After studying abroad in Chile my undestanding grew and I find it important that everyone knows the story of this time.

Movie Review: It is hard not to like
Summary: 5 Stars

A beautiful movie of dawning Pinochet's time Chile as boys from different walks of life befriended attending the same Catholic school.

Too many emotions to write too long comment here.

Movie Review: Great movie about a difficult time in Chile's history
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this movie in when it was showing in Chile and had been waiting for it to be released in the U.S. ever since. An excellent film.
