Movie Review: eh Summary: 3 Stars
i must admit, i was extremely excited to see that mtv put out pilates and yoga fitness tapes. i figured, "hey, maybe there will be some decent music involved and i wont get bored out of my mind."
well this was not the case.
it involves typical workout music, despite the fact that it says "oh DJ whatever rockin the music."
no. theres isnt and adrenaline pumping music.
so if youre looking for a fun workout,
this is not it.
Movie Review: This Pilates is best when mixed! Summary: 5 StarsI am an intermediate-level exerciser and I enjoy working out 7 days a week. When I first got this dvd, I was determined to do Routine 1 (upper body and abs), Routine 2 (lower body and abs), and the bonus (lower body) all in one shot. This gave me an exquisitely painful workout (my wrists--ouch!!!), but it put me out of commission for a couple of days (and this was doing Routine 1 with the beginners' modifications!).
Since I do like to workout daily, I decided to switch to the customizable workout option; this option allows you to pick abbreviated portions of the full routines. I still get an extremely effective, challenging full-body workout without having to take any days off for recuperation! If I have an extra 10 minutes, I also do the bonus workout. And if I'm feeling particularly brave, then I do have the choice to do the full routines. That's what makes this dvd a godsend. Bravo to Kristin McGee for another winner.
Movie Review: Not traditional pilates... Summary: 4 StarsThis is very much a fusion-type workout! I agree that for me, the pacing was quick and some of the moves I wasn't quite ready for. To safely do this workout, I recommend you at least be at an intermediate level (and not have any wrist problems!) I had a bad fall a few months ago and can't do much plank work, so I'll have to put this DVD away for another time. But, I liked the instructor! Kristin was very upbeat and motivating, and I would probably purchase other workouts led by her. If you're looking for detailed instruction though, you won't find it here!
Movie Review: Good only for advanced pilates Summary: 2 StarsFor someone who does pilates at an advanced level - this DVD is great. The customizable aspect is nice for keeping variety without having to own a ton of DVDs. If you are a beginner or casual pilates patron - this DVD is not for you. Even though they claim to have a person doing "beginner" level version of all of the exercises, the type of exercises that the instructor does are inherantly advanced. So even though there are modifications shown, they are way above the skill level of the casual pilates user. The progression is fast and intense, and the camera angles do not make it easy to follow the person doing the modified moves. If you are advanced and have very good strength, balance and endurance, then the speed and intensity of these workouts should be good for you.
