• 1945: The end of World War II led to the return of many Americans to their pre-war livelihoodsâ??including Detroit Tigers starter Virgil Trucks. Aided by Trucks, along with the 1945 American League MVP Hal Newhouser and Hank Greenberg, the Tigers won in seven games.
• 1968: The Tigersâ?? 1968 season was dominated by pitching, and the World Series showcased three of the best; 30-game winner Denny McClain faced the Cardinalsâ?? Bob Gibson in Game 1 as Gibson struck out a record seventeen Tigers. From there, Mickey Lolich took control with three complete-game wins.
• 1984: Coach Sparky Anderson led the Tigers to a record-setting start of the 1984 season culminating with 104 regular season wins, a sweep of the ALCS, and a World Series win. Jack Morris, Alan Trammell, and Kirk Gibson set the pace as the Tigers became only the third MLB club to go wire-to-wire.
