Movie Reviews of Lou Reed BerlinMovie Review: A Night I'll Never Forget Summary: 5 Stars
I should point out that I have not yet seen this film. However, I was at the concert that it captures and I can say with great confidence that if this film captures even a fraction of Lou Reed and companies performance that night than this film will be one of the greatest documents of one of our greatest living artists, Period. Lou along with all of the supporting players that night put on a show that no one who witnessed it will ever forget. See this film, even if you weren't lucky enough to be there and especially if you were. But then again if you were there you don't need me to tell you what you already know.
Movie Review: Perfection on Perfection Summary: 5 Stars
"Berlin" is one of the most depressing albums of all time, along with Neil Young's "Tonight's The Night" and "Faith" by The Cure. Seeing and hearing "Berlin" performed live makes the album even better. And, Antony singing "Candy Says" with Lou for the encore is priceless. It's no surprise that "Berlin" was panned in '73. Like modern classical music, it takes time for its genius to sink in. Lou's age and life experience also makes this a powerful performance. He was still a young man in '73. 35 years later, these songs take on a whole new level of pathos, terror and brilliance.
Movie Review: Lou Reed, Berlin revisited Summary: 5 Stars
This dvd captures a performance of searing power and sobriety. From Heroin to Berlin to Magic and Loss what marks Lou Reed out is his ability to handle tragedy, Tragedy as the Greeks understood it, as Shakespeare did, the ability to take you down to the depths and somehow leave you purged and exalted.
If you don't know the original album 'Berlin' from 1973, buy both and listen to the original first. If you didn't get to see him do it live, this dvd offers some compensation. If you were one of the lucky ones, well, you've already got a copy by now, haven't you?
Movie Review: Mr.New York is still rockin' Summary: 5 Stars
Short and sweet. This DVD is excellent from start to finish.Berlin is done with brilliance.Lou has a top notch band behind him, along with the director Julian S.,who is as intense as the music.I'm so glad Lou did this live DVD because it is truly a remarkable piece. If you are familiar with the original.Get it,you definately will not be disapointed.I watched it from start to finish 4X already, with the surround sound cranking(My B&W's never sounded better)Lou is the original Review: Lou, Lou, Lou Summary: 5 Stars
We have watched it twice. Lou Reed shares the stage with other great performers, all experienced musicians. The addition of the chorus adds to the magic this performance engenders. The duet with Antony brings goose bumps to me every time. The film work adds to the total story/songs like nothing else. All and all, a great night at the concert.
