Movie Reviews of Lonely are the Brave (Universal Backlot Series)Movie Review: Only the title is less than outstanding Summary: 5 Stars
The fight between the one armed man and Douglas is one of the best fight sequences I've seen. The movie is in black and white which actually seems to add to its effectiveness. Carroll O'Connor in an early role is outstanding as the truck driver that Douglas's fate is bound to. The real scene stealer, of course, is the horse.
This is the quintessential Douglas. Tough, funny, and vulnerable. A great western, among the best I've seen.
Movie Review: Top Ten Greatest Westerns Includes This One Summary: 5 Stars
One of my favorite movies of all time, this poignant story of a man out of touch with today's America is as relevant now as it was when it was filmed.
Kirk Douglas has always had his finger on the pulse of the nation, no more than when he enlisted the talents of, and used the name of, Dalton Trumbo, a great writer, blacklist or not.
Hat's off to Douglas and to this, his finest performance.
Movie Review: Great Movie Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great movie that shows Albuquerque, NM before it got comercialized. The back drop of the movie is the Sandia mountains where K Douglas takes his horse up the the La Luz trail to the top of a 17,000 ft mt. range. The places in the movie actually exist, and are wonderful to see and explore. I have walked the path K Douglas used to get to the top.
Movie Review: Lonely are the brave, happy are the few . . . Summary: 5 Stars
Lonely are the brave, happy are the few . . . who have seen this great film. And finally it is available on DVD. Douglas, Rowlands, and Matthau are at their best. The screen play is splendid. This is one of the few Saturday matinees that has stayed with me for nearly half a century. A special piece of work, all around.
Movie Review: Not Your Typical Western Summary: 5 Stars
This was Kirk Douglas's favorite movie. He hired Dalton Trumbo, the black-listed writer, to adapt the book, The Brave Cowboy, by Edward Abbey, (The Monkey Wrench Gang) for the big screen. Trumbo hit it the nail on the head and this combination of writing, directing, and acting created an American classic.
