Movie Reviews of Logan's RunMovie Review: Delectable 70's sci-fi & grindin' J. Goldsmith synth soundtrack Summary: 5 Stars
'Member watchin' this movie at the middle school gym in Toronto (in 1979) with my brother (we were 10 and 11) - clickety-clackety 16 mm projector - 1 dollar (Canadian) admission - comin' from a rigidly Puritanical home, the coupla scenes where Jenny Agutter (Jessica) lets drop her tunic, were a moral challenge - do we have'ta admit to Mom'n Dad what we saw? uhhhh??! No...
Found myself drawn in to the combination of loaded 'terms' (sanctuary, renewal, Sandmen [putting you to 'sleep']) + the sounds/'music' generated for the film by Mr Goldsmith - love the almost ethereal/otherworldly quality of the voice of the PA - e.g.,
P.A. System: Capricorn 15's. Born 2244. Enter the Carousel. This is the time of renewal.
[Crowd applauds]
P.A. System: Be strong and you will be renewed. Identify.
[Capricorn 15's show flashing crystals]
great (just slight) reverb on the gently female voice - wonder who that was...??? wanna get the book...
Movie Review: This IS Sanctuary! Summary: 5 Stars
Yes it's bizzare, yes it has cheesy sets and costumes and YES it stars Michael Work and Farrah Fawcett but I DON"T want to see some really untalented modern day hack director come along and turn this classic into a needlessly dark, grungy Generation X sci-fi flick!"Logan's Run" thin veneer of cheese gives it it's charm-the movie IS very well constructed and the plot is brilliant! It's message-that paradise may no be where or what one thinks is something people in this modern age should take to heart. And I actually LIKE the slightly homoerotic feel of the first half of the film. And the special effects were good in their time (unless you call todays already corny computer animation a brilliant move). Not to make a pun but for classic science fiction fans this is a movie to run to but PLEASE MODERN-DAY HOLLYWOOD;DON'T SCREW THIS UP WITH Review: The Movie is Bizarre But It's Good! Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't read the books that the movie Logan's Run was based on but I saw this movie and I really enjoyed it. Yes it's bizarre. Yes the special effects are not as good as they are in movies being made these days. Yes the costumes are flimsy. But the acting is very good, especially the acting from Michael York and the late Richard Jordan and also Jenny Agutter is quite good too. I highly recommend this DVD, the extra features could be better but at least the movie is shown in it's original aspect ratio instead of that horrible edited pan and scan! Well, one side of the DVD has pan and scan and the other side is widescreen and it's the widescreen side that I watch. I bought the book Logan's Run and I was going to read it but then I found out that it's not just one book but a series of books and I didn't want to get into reading a book that is part of a series so I gave the book away!
Movie Review: There is just something about this movie that really appeals Summary: 5 Stars
to me. I really love the overall look of the movie too. I think the "cheesy" look of the film is VERY appealing to me. This is defiently a movie you will either love or hate. I absolutely can't understand how someone could take off more than one star for the effects not being up to par. I don't think this movie needs the greatest effects in the world to be a great movie. The story is extremely interesting to me. I gave this movie 5 stars and I think it deserves them. I am not saying this movie is better than say "2001" although I am sure a lot of people would much rather watch this than that especially younger people who would find "2001" boring as heck. Just open your mind and forget the cheesy effects and have a really good time watching this movie. I am a very proud owner of this DVD.
Movie Review: This is the time of renewal! Summary: 5 Stars
I have loved this movie since my older brother made me watch it when I was a kid. Yes, it is dated! No, it is not as good as the book but my god, it is a great film. I believe the DVD is as great as it could have been - unless they had found the deleted scenes. I have not watched it with the commentry on all the way through yet - but it is great to know it is there for ever more waiting for me to get round to watching it. It is great to see the documentry "welcome to the 23rd century" showing all the behind the scenes footage. Now all we need is all 14 episodes of the tv series released on dvd - considering how much the bootleg videos go for on ebay - I would not think it will be long before Warner Bros will be cashing in on that - heres hoping!!
