Movie Reviews of Logan's Run

Movie Review: Post-Apocalyptic Paradise
Summary: 5 Stars

A good way to judge the quality of a movies special effects, is by seeing how many other movies rob their footage. I don't know how many times I've seen the Domes and City from Logan's Run used in lesser movies - I've lost count. The sets and costume design are amazing, bringing about a vision of the future second-to-none. The props maintain their futuristic appeal, even today. The Sandman gun, in particular, with its unusual flare and effect, is an impressive example of the prop-masters art. The storyline: a futuristic world where nobody lives past the age of 35. In a carvival atmosphere, they are "renewed," while the crowd cheers on. Some people don't believe in renewal, and seek "sanctuary," they are called "runners." These runners are hunted by sandmen (police), and killed. Michael York, plays Logan 5, a sandman who is forced to rethink his opinions on renewal and seek sanctuary. I wont spoil the story any more, for those who haven't seen this epic, but I will say that the plot leads out of the domes into a strange (yet familiar) world. Enjoy the show!

Movie Review: Run, Run, Run And Get This!
Summary: 5 Stars

I saw this movie in its original theatrical release. I was 10 years old. I was stunned, amazed, entranced, shocked, excited and thrilled by the colors, lights and sounds.

For the next 5 years I was Logan and all my friends were Sandmen. This movie is Michael Anderson (the Director)at his best. An extremely inventive and innovative film for its time. This movie has a great story, great perfomrnaces and great sets and props. Even the model city is stunning. (Built on a 25 foot by 35 foot table top on the stages of MGM.

Colorful and almost magical. It was the very first "Special Acadamy Award" for Special Effects and diservedly so! Michael York and Jenny Augutter are wonderful and the late Richard Jorden was the perfect villan.

The best performace is the "Old Man" played by Peter Ustinov. Rosce Lee Brown plays the predesor to C-3PO and Lt, Cmdr. Data. The costumes are simple but unique.

This is a must to own.. The DVD commentary is fantastic! And for me, it brought back a lot of memories!

Movie Review: Oh MY!
Summary: 5 Stars

You know, I didn't really like this movie when it first appeared in theaters. I thought Michael York had cheekbones as wide as a football field, and Jenny Agutter was as frigid as one of BOX's tv-dinner sanctuary seekers. I guess I've mellowed with age. This DVD is a wonderful version of what has turned out to be a classic of the genre. Widescreen post-apocalyptic pie-in-the-sky glory. Carousel, last day, cats, Box, muscle, the New You, the Love Shop, sandmen, sanctuary..all words of the day, and fresh and new in this DVD. If you have never had the pleasure of seeing this movie, I highly recommend it. I love the Dallas and Ft. Worth locations. I have stood in that fountain that was used for the final scenes of the film. It's across from the Ramada Inn in Ft. Worth Texas.

Seriously, Peter Ustinov as Old Man is the crowning gem of the movie.. his "Oh MY!" at every suprise, his quotes from "Book of Practical Cats" is pure joy.

This is a great version of the movie.

Movie Review: 70's Sci-Fi at its pre-'Star Wars' finest!
Summary: 5 Stars

'Logan's Run' is a great film about the city of a fascistic society in the future where no one is allowed to live past 30, instead they are transformed into dead people by a futuristic lightshow celebrated by the town's inhabitants. The society is controlled by a 'Brave New World' type Bacchanal government, which means you can do what you want, but at 30, make way for others like a good citizen. No one knows that they are actually killed, however.
Logan decides he don't play that game, and goes on the lam with a girl, finding his way outside and past a cheesy robot that likes to store running people as food. The robot is humorous in a 'Black Hole' sort of way, but probably the film's only low point.
The special effects surpass previous 70's sci-fiers (aside from '2001'). This film is perhaps more poignant today than when it was made in the 70's, when now it appears our American society is used to the Bacchanal mind control that was merely in its infancy when this film was made.

Movie Review: Awesome SCI-FI Movie!
Summary: 5 Stars

Logan's Run is an awesome Sci-Fi movie and I really enjoyed watching it. Yes it's bizarre. Yes the special effects are not as good as they are in movies being made these days. Yes the costumes are flimsy. But the acting is very good, especially the acting from Michael York and the late Richard Jordan and also Jenny Agutter is quite good too. I had taped Logan's Run when it was shown on Showtime but it was only shown in standard fullscreen and not widescreen so when I bought this widescreen DVD I rewound the tape back and taped over it with episodes of the NBC hospital drama ER. I highly recommend this DVD, the extra features could be better but at least the movie is shown in it's original aspect ratio instead of being cut so the widescreen haters won't complain about the black bars. I read an old review from some guy saying that he heard rumors about a movie remake of Logan's Run and I really don't think this movie needs to be remade but if it is being remade I hope they don't mess it up!
