Movie Reviews of Logan's Run

Movie Review: Hell have no fury like a Sandman scorned
Summary: 5 Stars

Remember 'Bodies, Rest and Motion' in which Quentin Tarantino plays a film geek speculating about the pilot's sexuality in 'Top Gun'? Now, what would his character have made of Logan's Run?

Logan and Francis are best buddies who work together. They also kill together with some funny shaped guns that remind me of something, I just can't quite place it. Our intrepid Sandmen also work out together and seduce women on a couch together. But Logan is getting restless lately. He hangs out in the nursery cooeing at babies and is spending a lot of time with a girl named Jessica. Then, sacrilege! He won't get into the hot tub with Francis when asked. Then he goes on the run with Jessica until Francis catches up with him. "Look, we all go a bit crazy once in a while. I could have turned you in, I didn't. But she's a runner and it's over. Terminate her...NOW!" But Logan shoots at Francis and legs it. Francis's eyes bulge in fury. Logan and Jessica escape the city and have a swim in the buff together. Luckily Francis misses this, he'd have a fit. Eventually Francis catches up with them in an abandoned Washington. He grabs Jessica and snarls "he was fine till he met you. What did you do to him?" He confronts Logan with the girl in his arms. "Is this good, is this what you want?" Wails Francis. "We had good times buddy!" Unfortunately, Francis comes off a little worse for wear and is last seen staring lovingly up into Logan's eyes. "Hey, Logan, you renewed!" But what does Francis think Logan has renewed? Later, sitting around a camp fire, Jessica and Logan discover that men and women used to marry and stay with each other for life out of a sense of love. Logan smiles. He likes the idea. Poor Francis is probably turning in his grave.

Movie Review: 2274 my phat white uggly old 36 year sandled man foot!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was an innocent babe of "6" when this movie came out and only just discovered it, ironically when I was 30 back in 2000. Ha! Asside from the appearence of people(plasti-face surgury done right,) most LESS intelligent people, in particular a real life plasti-face on some Fox show that had so much "stuff" on her face and body she could barely speak(though had nothing to say) is the reality of it. You cannot be someone you aren't and if you do you run the risk of being Frankenstien's monster. She was(in real life). My brother's college classmate wanted a big chin over his mousey face and so now has a plastic pile-o-crapola under his neck Ha! for being so stupid, I say. this movie is actually a walk in the park compared to what is happening today and shows the "future" is sooner than one realises. The nasty nineties(which I adored) became the neat-n-spiffy 21st century. Sharply ascending zippers and high-strung people who struggle to hide thier uggly character(el demon). That is New York City(git u rope!) Of course this movie-show(a coloaklial 70's term) is in a "Ultra" modern environment(nowadays that is an obsolete term replaced with "Post" Modern). with a method of escape in the rural countryside of hell. The domes(remenscent of Dr. Who's Genisis of the Daleks, Kalide Citedel) is a beautifully done symbol of the future that is not the Earth we know today(or America we knew in 1970+) Typical 60's/70's mentality of actually HAVING a place to escape from the hum-drum pretty boiez school but what evah! Farienhieght 451 playes out exactly the same. In reality, their will be no escape from a totalitarian scociety, those in charge are too cleaver and the rest of us too stupid.
Duh End.

Movie Review: Logan's Run: No one lives passed 30.
Summary: 5 Stars

Now this is a science-fiction fantasy! However, if you saw this film as a preteen or teenager, we all thought this was what the near future would look like. The futuristic city sets are fantastic. The most memorable scenes of the film are the futuristic city look of transportation was the best and Farrah Fawcett with the running mascara gave us all boys nice dreams. The cast: Michael York, Richard Joudan, Jenny Agutter, Roscoe Lee Browne, Farrah Fawcett-Majors (She was married to the "Six-Million Dollar Man", Lee Majors at the time), Michael Anderson Jr and Peter Ustinov. People here can not live pass the age of 30. They are not allowed to. When signaled or called upon they must enter "Carousel". If they don't and they hide or run, they are called "runners". Those that enter "Carousel" are destroyed, but people are lead to believe, they are "renewed". Logan is forced in a situation before his time, to run as well. He has to find out if there is a way outside the city they are held in. Great scenes of a nature-taken-over Washington DC. Look closely, use yor "zoom", Peter Ustinov is wearing U.S. Pennies as buttons. Followed by a short-lived tv series "Logan's Run" (1977-1978). On the DVD, a 9-minute featurette is titled "A Look Into The 23rd Century" and theatrical trailer. A very informative and detailed Audio Commentary by Michael Anderson, Michael York and Bill Thomas. One Disc, Full Screen and Wide-Screen.

Movie Review: A Look At The Future - From The 70's
Summary: 5 Stars

"Logan's Run" remains one of my favorite childhood experiences. My Dad and I tried to recall whether we'd first seen it in the theater together, and I believe we did.

At the time, "Logan's Run" was a technical masterpiece, being one of the last great science-fiction movies pre-Star Wars. Viewed now, being used to more modern technology, the sets are almost laughable. Models look very much like models, though "Logan's Run" can boast of being the first film to utilize laser holography (one of the reasons the film won a special achievement Academy award).

The story fits right in with the film's 70s appeal. A post-apocalyptic (what type of apocalypse isn't relevant..or mentioned) city where the inhabitants live a life of idleness and hedonism, until they turn 30. Then it's forced lights out.

Naturally, some people run rather than walk into a certain death. The Sandmen are there to catch them.

The acting, for the most part, is very good. The story flows well and is interesting throughout, though a bit cheesy in place. This becomes one of the 70's penultimate films just by virtue of Farrah Fawcett's hair alone.

There is plenty of kitsch value in "Logan's Run", but it stands as an excellent film in its own right. A behind the scenes documentary sheds some insight into how director's achieved that futuristic look before computers were powerful enough to aid artistic imagination.

"Logan's Run" remains a science-fiction classic.

Movie Review: The most impressive world of Sci-Fi before Star Wars
Summary: 5 Stars

It has been blasted by those who called it a shopping mall of scantilly clad teenagers, but to this writer it will always be a world of Wonder and a great movie.

I went to see this movie when I was a kid and it was incredible. The scantilly clad women were a big turn on to a little guy like me too !

Basically the World as we know it has fallen into a post apocolyptic computer driven world where everyone's life is directed until they reach 30. Then its the red blinking crystal and either wearing a hocking mask and a red flame uniform or learning how to do the 500K dash in a very fast time.

This movie is impressive in what it says about society and people. No matter how you arrange our lives we need change and diversity. If you try to program us from birth, our natural rebellion will always seek ways to overthrow the status quo.

A very worthwhile fantasy for those who have never seen it, and for the really cheap prices they are asking a bargain !

An all English cast reminds viewers that even though they are in post apocolyptic America, that the English may be all thats left of us ! Also sad is the apparent lack of other racial groups in the film. Perhaps it is a social commentary of movies of that time, or perhaps the producers wanted a uniform future. But to this writer, I would prefer a future that has people of all races alive and well, and I have an English background.

For those who want to enjoy a fantasy, don't take it as being a blueprint of the future.
