Movie Reviews of Living Out Loud

Movie Review: A survivor's handbook
Summary: 5 Stars

If you want to know what this movie is about, check out the reviews below. If you want a good reason to see it, consider an incredible performance by Holly Hunter and an outstanding directorial debut by one of the best screenwriters in the business - Richard La Gravenese.

Holly Hunter has never been better. While many stars today seem comfortable giving us the same predictable character over and over again, film after film, she continues to deliver an outstanding and freshly original performance with each new offering. In this movie, Hunter plays her part so convincingly that many women who have played this role in real life will quickly identify with her character's plight and the journey it takes her on.

For La Gravenese, rare is the screenwriter who consistantly creates great stories supported by words with such meaning and truth - I found myself clinging to every line. In "Living Out Loud," he has filmed the must see movie for every woman who has ever been slighted by her man and yet, despite it all, managed to move on and survive just fine without him, thank you.

This film earns every star!

Movie Review: Queen Latifah's Breakout Role/ A Great Film
Summary: 5 Stars

Much of what has been written in reviews about this movie tell of how much of a sleeper it was. Which it was. But also, it was the first film that exposed the public to the true talent of Queen Latifah as an actress. Before "Chicago," Queen Latifah blessed us with her true gift of performing in "Living Out Loud."

I saw the movie a few years ago, and I really enjoyed it. Holly Hunter and Danny Devito were absolutely great! I knew I would have to get the DVD for my collection. I was pleasantly surprised with the deleted scenes and found myself enjoying the overall film even more the second time around.

One of the huge pluses of the DVD is that you can go right to the famous "dance" scene (which, for anyone who has seen the movie, is one of the most memorable moments of the entire film).

If you have not seen this film yet, you owe it to yourself to at least rent it.

Movie Review: One of my favorites
Summary: 5 Stars

I know this film didn't make it BIG. But, it really is a diamond in the rough. A woman (Holly Hunter) recreating her life after a failed marriage, finds life has so many unanswered questions and quandaries. When Holly's character starts to think about "crack babies", I was instantly hooked. I thought, this is a character I can truly relate to. Someone that finds herself in a place in life that is so unsure and a bit confusing. But in the end, (without a Hollywood ending) she realizes she is okay. Life is one big thing that may not automatically make sense. But it will work out. If you like films on the off note, go ahead and give this a try. The more I watch it, the better it gets. On a side note: In regards to the DVD, it has a few good extras. The deleted scenes were interesting. A great addition to your slice of life film collection.

Movie Review: Touching and Ultimately Satisfying
Summary: 5 Stars

From the first frame of this movie, of Holly Hunter sitting in the resturant, I knew this this would be a five star picture. The talent that I fell in love with in Broadcast News still has the power to captivate the screen.

This movie is one of a kind. The two main charecters DO NOT climb in the sack after their first meeting. They take the time to enjoy one anothers' company and provide casual comfort as well as a strong emotional connection. It was hard to say goodbye to these charecters who, over the last 90 minutes, had become people.

The end, as much as some people didn't like it, left me satisfyed because I thought of it as though I was one of these charecters. In the end, we all just want our loved ones to feel happiness, and for Judith and Pat, that happiness was destined to be found further down the road.
