Movie Review: Ahhhhh, Zucchero! Grazie Mille!

I came to Zucchero by a tortuous route, but I am so glad I have arrived. It started with "Miserere" with Andrea Bocelli and John Miles (on Romanza). I loved the song, and the combination of John Miles' bluesy voice with Bocelli's classically trained one, so I started researching the song. I found it was written for Pavarotti by someone named "Zucchero". I listened to a little of it on iTunes, and liked it as well, although having heard the Bocelli/Miles version first, I leaned toward that as my favorite. (Little did I know!)
A little more listening to other songs on Zucchero's lists, and some browsing of YouTube gave me "Il Volo", and I was hooked. Now I am in love with THREE Italians: Bocelli, Pavarotti, and mostly Zucchero.
One of my favorite things about listening to the songs in Italian is that because I don't speak the language I don't focus on the lyrics.I am free to listen to the voice, the passion, and the music.
Be sure to watch the additional cuts on the DVD. Especially the one that follows Zucchero after the concert with the interview. You will be amazed (if you don't already know) that as perfect as his English is when he sings, his accent when he talks is delightful. I also think in this interview, you see something other than the power of his performance, and more of the sweetness and joy of the man. You can also get the subtitles for the concert, so you can follow what he is saying to the audience.
As others have mentioned, I don't know why he is not better known in the US, especially since he performed here with a rather well known Randy Jackson in the early days. He also apparently has no problem getting other well known US and international stars to perform with him.
I now have an additional item on my "bucket list": To see a Zucchero concert before I die. Unfortunately, it will probably have to be in Europe.
