Movie Review: One of the greats

I loved this DVD, if you want to check out one of the most gifted and influential American singer-songwriters this DVD is a great place to start. I am a total fan of Curtis Mayfield's music, I will admit -- his work with the Impressions in the 1960s up to his later solo releases sets a high standard. Here is a guy with a unique style who influenced so many other artists, everyone from Bob Dylan to Bob Marley to Jimi Hendrix. Yeah the band is a little stiff on here but they do a good job in general. Curtis performs some of his best tunes, some very well known, others more obscure. The music throughout is excellent and the sound and picture are top-notch on this disc. In the interviews Curtis comes across as a very sweet and humble spirit, and being a musician myself he is an inspiration to me both personally and musically. I'm glad that there were people who had the wit to document Curtis' contributions with films like this one.
