Movie Reviews of Little Children

Movie Review: Jackie Earle Haley's performance crushed me!
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't find where to write to Mr. Haley, so I am airing my feelings about his performance here. After the movie was over, I cried for this character. I sobbed in pain as I tried to explain to my husband the depth of his pain and his helplessness over his illness. Even now, after seeing the movie months ago, my eyes fill with tears, my heart aches, and I get chills when I think about Haley's character. I could only watch the movie one time because of this. I have a daughter in recovery for addiction, and wanted to express to Mr. Haley how much his performance affected me, and how much I understood his character's powerlessness. Thank you, Mr. Haley.
Oh, yes...there are other actors in the movie who are also very good, and I would definitely watch it for Haley's excellent and heart-breaking performance.

Movie Review: Emotionally-Stunted Grownups
Summary: 5 Stars

Similar to the TV hit Desperate Housewives but with a more melancholy tone, the film focuses on suburban outcasts who, either failing in their marriages, fired from their jobs, underachieving, or in the most extreme case relegated to a life of shame for pedophilia, languish in angst-ridden loneliness. This is not a spare, dry or slow film. The tension between the unhappy couples and the rage the fired vigilante cop has for the resident pedophile keep the suspense going. Bear in the mind, the sarcastic novel, from which this film is based, has a less melancholy feature precisely because of the witty language. However, the film, especially because of the masterful performances by Kate Winslet and Jackie Earle Haley (as the doomed pedophile), make this film an excellent complement to the novel.

Movie Review: Realistic Perspective
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie at first glance is just like others in the category of self-destructive inter-personal relationships. However, upon closer examination this movie offers realistically portrayed insights into seemingly dead end relationships. The two main players experience different frustrations with their respective relationships and fill each other's voids while living in a self-constructed fantasy world. The poignant bookclub discussion of the classic novel Madame Bovary pits two very different points of views against each other, much like the reactions of the viewers to this well directed, and extremely well cast movie. Perspective in this movie is everything and is further enhanced by the nature documentary style narrative. This movie has quickly become one of my favorites!

Movie Review: this movie is superb
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been a Kate Winslet fan since Titanic. I knew about the Oscar nominations but that's not why I checked it out. As the movie went along, I found myself more and more drawn in. That's a sign of a good movie. I give it 5 stars because it's hard for me to articulate any flaws to justify taking an entire star away from my rating. I knew that the soccer-mom sterotypes would upset the soccer-moms who claim they are not as judgmental, pretentious, or gossipy as the movie portrays. It's a gripping drama that keeps you glued to the screen. The characters are well developed and the acting is on point. The most refreshing thing about this film is that it's not predictable. The ending is evidence to that. You won't be disappointed in this selection.

Movie Review: Wow! I am impressed !
Summary: 5 Stars

I just watched Little Children, and I must say it was a huge breath of fresh air . It is a real life, dark, but gripping story of people struggling against the mundain unhappiness of suburban life. All of the characters (Lead by the incredibal Kate Winslet) are trying to find some way to be happy with their lives. Over the course of the film, they each make mistakes and unadvised decisions. In the end though you realize how brilliant a job Director Todd Field did at painting a vivid picture of how none of them was a bad person . In fact they all seem like tragic victims . Kate Winslet furher cements herself as the most talented actress of her generation in a painfully deep role . I am going to buy this movie , and I suggest you see it .
