Movie Review: This film has held up well

I recently watched Little Big Man for the first time in 20 years. I was surprised how well it has held up. In fact I believe it to be a superior movie when compared to Dances With Wolves which perpetuates the myth of the Noble Savage, especially in the depictions of living conditions. The Plains Indians suffered a brutal and primitive existance survived by becoming one with their environment. I think Little Big Man depicts this while Dances With Wolves does not.Movie Review: Little Big Man

Review: Part comedy, part stinging commentary on our treatment of the Indians, "Man" is a dazzling accomplishment, a vivid tapestry of good and evil, courage and cowardice, dignity and disgrace - all the opposing qualities that made the mythical old west the basis of so many great movies. In a virtuoso turn, Dustin Hoffman plays Crabb from teenager to 121-year-old man, and early on, even gets a bath from a sexually repressed Christian lady (Dunaway).

I thought my husband was crazy when he wanted me to watch another western. Until I watched this movie, I thought all Westerns were pretty much the same, but this one isn't like any other Western I've seen. I can't believe that is Dustin Hoffman!! This movie is serious, comical, entertaining. The thesis of the movie is far fetched, but this is hollywoods view! Battle of Sand Creek, and the Wachita River battle in Oklahoma are shown, both very graphic and hollywood. Over the top view of Custer is entertaining, not accurate but very entertaining! I love the movie despite flaws and have watched it many many times.Movie Review: Greatest Western Ever!!!

I saw this movie in school and it had a combination of all genres. Little Big Man was a comedy and action-adventure. The best part of the movie is when one of the Indians (Native Americans) says "I have 4 horses and a wife." Little Big Man (Dustin Hoffman) responds by saying "I have 4 wives and a horse."
Excellent film.
