Movie Reviews of Little Big Man

Movie Review: Great Western, shows truths we're still unwilling to come to grips with today
Summary: 5 Stars

Dustin Hoffman is great in this classic Western. It's one of the best Westerns out there. Hoffman plays a cavalry man who ends up living among the Native Americans. It's a bitter story of how poorly and unjustly were these people treated. Unfortunately, they're not faring much better today and the government does not treat them better either. There are some truths in this movie that we're still not willing to face and come to grips with today. This should be a required material for school kids and grown ups alike. We'd be much more grateful for what we have instead of complaining for what we can't buy if we thought about these things more.

Movie Review: Must Be On Top Ten Westerns
Summary: 5 Stars

All the others on this page have done a wonderful job of reviewing this movie, so I will not continue. However I think it is a shame that it is not on any Top Ten lists of westerns. All the lists I have seen are heavy with Ford directed movies depicting the Indians as the bad, the yellow scarved cavalrymen as the good, and the obligatory love interest of some chick riding into indian country on the stage. I suppose it is understandable given the times these were made, etc., but most westerns are a notch below Little Big Man. Outlaw Josie Wales should be in the top ten also, but that rant is for another page.

Movie Review: Little Big Man
Summary: 5 Stars

'Little Big Man' is an incredible movie. If I had to choose only one out of all others to ever see again in my life, it would be this one. Rich with the ironic comedy of life (as well as the tragedies)It is History come to life. With truly great acting by Dustin Hoffman, Chief Dan George and Faye dunaway. Historically accurate and fantastically entertaining.
When you've seen a movie as often as I've seen this one, and it never fails to bring both laughter and tears you know you have a classic . If you have never seen it,you are missing out.
I hope it is released on DVD soon!

Movie Review: Super!
Summary: 5 Stars

This, along with "2001: A Space Odyssey", were the only movies which I actually saw more than once in the theaters way back when. I hadn't seen "Little Big Man" since, and I was anxious it wouldn't stand up to my memories. Rather, I found it to still be an excellent example of the art of the craft, even after all these years. A little thin in spots (especially after just reading N.Philbrick's commendable "The Last Stand"), but a well told story that bears the passage of time far better than most movies of that period. Excellent acting, especially, by Chief Dan George. Highly recommended.

Movie Review: Forrest Gump of the 70s
Summary: 5 Stars

I've loved this movie since I first saw it when I was a tween. Dustin Hoffman is fantastic. The span of history is interesting (but not intended to be historical). And the landscapes and scenery are beautiful.

Upon watching it again in my older years, I think it was the "Forrest Gump" of the 70s. Like Forrest Gump, it was not meant to be historical, accurate, and a true-life saga.

I do agree that some of it seems "cheesy" now. But, our grandchildren are going to think the same thing about Forrest Gump when they see it a few years from now.
