Movie Reviews of LimboMovie Review: It's Far From Heaven and Too Cold to be Hell Summary: 5 Stars
Limbo is an excellent movie. Set in Juneau, Alaska, three unsuspecting people (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, David Strathairn, Vanessa Martinez) will meet by fate. Soon, they will embark on a journey that will determine their own fate with ambiguity, left in limbo. A person's past experience is reflected in this human drama/thriller along with revelations of regret and sorrow. Limbo is a haunting masterpiece from director John Sayles and Mastrantonio has a knockout voice.
Movie Review: John Sayles strikes gold in Alaska Summary: 5 Stars
Once again John Sayles has shown us why most critics and many moviegoers consider him one of the best directors currently working in film. From his choice of actors to play his primary roles to his choice of the Alaskan landscape on which to unfold his drama, Sayles has done it again. As others, I was not expecting the way John Sayles chose to end this film, but if you think about it, doesn't he leave us in Limbo too at the end?
Movie Review: It will blow your mind Summary: 5 Stars
Attention reader: pay heed to what I say. LIMBO is, perhaps, one of the most well-done films of all time. It's a shame it was only in limited release, damn shame, because it's such a wonderful film. It encompasses every emotion one looks for in a movie, and the ending is not only unpredictable, but totally mind-blowing as well. Buy this film and cherish it always, because a movie this wonderful hardly ever comes along.
Movie Review: What a treat! Summary: 5 Stars
As usual with Sayles movies, it takes a while to pop the DVD into the player as you know you are in for a thought-provoking time, no gratuitous sex or violence here... just a good, solid story with some of the best acting you can find.Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and David Strathairn are wonderful as are their roles, the Alaskan scenery is just plain beautiful, and the film will keep you thinking for weeks...
Movie Review: One of Sayles' best, and one of the best films of 1999 Summary: 5 Stars
Even if I weren't a huge David Strathairn fan, I'd still consider this a great film. Sayles has always lavished attention on the most important part of any movie - the script. This film stayed with me for many days afterwards - I can't wait to hear Sayles' Director's Commentary.
