Movie Reviews of License to WedMovie Review: Average Robin Williams Vehicle Summary: 3 Stars
This is the quintessential date movie. You spend a few bucks, your brain's not taxed, and it's off for Chinese food. The only thing that really distinguishes this movie is the presence of Academy Award winner Robin Williams. Unfortunately, these kind of middling affairs are more typical of Williams' output than "Good Will Hunting". Williams is an extremely talented guy. He's funny reading the phone book. Alas, judging from his engagement to the material here he is essentially phoning it in. Oh, well. At least it's not "R.V.". This movie is as predicatable
as they come. Young lovebirds (Mandy Moore and John Krasinski) decide to wed with a small window of three weeks to their intended nuptials. Before they can get to the altar they must pass Reverend Ed's (Williams) crash course in marriage preparation which some would say is akin to boot camp at Paris Island. Bickering and failure ensue. The perfect couple are on shaky ground. Alls well that ends well as the couple reconcile and Reverend Ed presides over their wedding at a sun-splashed resort in Jamaica. Did I give too much away? Didn't think so. If this kind of movie ended any different there would be run at the box office for a refund. "Licence to Wed" is what it is. Eminently forgettable but the kind of movie people on a date seek out. They can't all be "Date Night".

License to Wed
I had serious doubts about License To Wed. Robin Williams has always been know for classic comedy roles, however, with several recent dips in the comedy train, it seemed unlikely even he could save a romantic comedy playing an over bearing, marriage counseling pastor. However, I think that although the basic story line was more than ridiculous, the cast had a great charisma that made the parts of the film that didn't click work more than they should have. Mandy Moore did an excellent portrayl of a semi-controlling bride to be. In fact, I had never seen Ms Moore in a film and have really warmed up to the idea since watching the movie. Another surprise was John Krasinski, the adorable boy next door. He almost seems like a younger version of Ben Stiller's Gaylord Focker in Meet The Parents. At times it is both hilarious, and difficult to was Krasinski's character Ben go through the tests that Father Frank has in store. And of course the great Williams proving once again that he is versatile and can get a laugh out of most any gag. Still not one of my favorite films (although Krasinski was close to getting my vote) still a good deal to pick up on sale or rent for a quiet night at home.
Movie Review: average at best Summary: 3 Stars
License to Wed isn't one of Robin William's finest moments, but he was easily the highlight of the film. While he had some funny lines, the main storyline of the movie is about two young people in love who have to go through some rather silly steps in order for Robin to agree the couple are ready to marry.
If you were to take out Robin Williams from the movie, you'd be left with one unmemorable storyline. The actor and actress who played the man and woman in love were good enough in their role, but weren't really funny or interesting when the story focused on them. It always had to be Robin Williams on screen to keep things above average.
In fact, the final 20 minutes of film were really average and looked like any other romantic comedy out there. About as predictable as you'd expect a storyline to be. A very average conclusion.
The one thing about the movie I DID like was when the young couple were foolish enough to believe they'd never get in a fight with each other *ever*, and Robin had to show them that EVERY couple gets involved in an argument from time to time. I liked that part.
Movie Review: Robin Williams - Good, Movie - Just OK Summary: 3 Stars
Reverend Frank (played by Robin Williams) holds this movie together with a portrayal of a psycho reverend that puts couple, Sadie and Ben (played by Mandy Moore and John Krasinski) through a couples workshop before the big day (aka wedding). He puts them through some grueling and insane things such as bugging their apartment, staging fights, no sex till the wedding, taking care of a set of fake babies, etc.
The movie has its laughs and the acting isn't half bad (although to be honest without Robin Williams you wouldn't have much of a movie). I give it a three because although it was cute and I got through it, I was bored. Some parts of the movie follow along the similar lines of all the other wedding movies. There are some funny parts where I found myself chuckling (when Reverend Frank really goes overboard) but then again, the ending is pretty predictable.
My suggestion would be to make it a rental, or an on clearance purchase. Unless of course if you don't like Robin Williams, then I wouldn't see it at all, because the rest of the movie won't keep you interested long enough to get through it.
Movie Review: A Love Story Summary: 3 Stars
Mandy Moore as Sadie Jones and John Krasinski as Ben Murphy decide they want to get married. He wishes to marry in the tropics, but Sadie chooses to get married at her hometown church of St. Augustine's. The pastor of the church is the Reverend Frank, played by Robin Williams. And he will not bless their union until they pass his patented, foolproof marriage-prep course.
Of course to add pressure to the situation, the church only has one wedding slot available in the next two years so they must take this course. Reverend Frank does all he can in this course to cause conflict in their relationship and show them what they could face. He claims his course needed to make them ready for what lays ahead. And throughout the movie both Sadie and John get advice from those who have failed relationships instead of each other.
One thing is sure, and that is if anyone can make it through this course, they are in love. A good marriage is a lot of work and in its own way this movie explores that. The movie has its moments. This movie is worth watching, especially with the one you your significant other.
