Movie Reviews of License to WedMovie Review: This movie was a knockout...not sure why so many people didn't like it. Summary: 5 Stars
I rented this movie from Blockbuster yesterday and although I don't consider it my "favorite" movie, I am still giving it 5 stars because the plot was hilarious and Robin Williams (John Krasinki) and Mandy Moore (Sadie) made me laugh throughout the movie. I was at first surprised to see more than 20 1 star reviews for this movie, and how people repeatedly commented the movie was a "waste of time". For me it was 90 minutes well spent and I might actually purchase this movie and watch it with my friends.
The character of the reverend is kind of creepy of how he tries to ruin the couple's marriage, spies on the them through a wiretap planted in their apartment, and nearly kills them when making Sadie drive blindfolded (I definitely don't recommend that at home because that is a one way ticket to the afterlife!). He has some problems and needs counseling but I thought his ultimate motive to lower the divorce rate and make a successful marriage work was good. He was just should have been arrested for nearly killing the couple by having Sadie drive blindfolded!
In closing this is a very funny comedy. I recommend that you do not take it too seriously and enjoy whatever the story is trying to tell you. Because in the end it is only a movie and it is meant not to be taken so seriously. The actors Robin Williams, Mandy Moore, and Josh Flitter (as the younger student) did a great job playing out their roles. This isn't a really a family oriented movie, but it is still laugh out loud comedy. I hope a sequel to this movie comes out.
Movie Review: I now pronounce you: "Under Observation!" Summary: 5 Stars
When Ben Murphy (John Krasinski) and Sadie Jones (Mandy Moore) are corrailed into marriage prep course by Reverend Frank (Robin Williams), all hell breaks loose.
Reverend Frank is a whacky, evangelical, over-baring, over-the-top, yet lovable, control freak. He immediately sets out to ensure the couple will: "1" by married by The Book, and "2" succeed in their marriage. He will stop at nothing to break up any pre-marital sex, to cause fights, and bring their relationship to its knees all for the ultimate goal of what he sees as a perfect marriage...
It's a comic blast with relatives, romance, and reverends. Tension comes from all directions: family, and the fiancees.
If I were to compare it to another film I would say it's the marital version of Anger Management (Widescreen Edition). If I had to compare it to current works of Mandy Moore, I would choose A Walk to Remember, though this is very up-beat, without the threat of imminent death, and so much more funny.
I would recommend this to anyone who's gone through puberty and hasn't yet died. In other words, it'd be good for you, your girlfriend, or your parents. It has a religious context, but is not religious. It is very family-friendly yet it should not be over-looked by audience.
Movie Review: Liscense to Wed Summary: 5 Stars
What a great movie!! License to Wed I read all the reviews online and was surprised with some of the comments. I think people missed the point of this movie. I viewed it as a satire to marriage preparation; however, there were some great points made. One, with marriage comes committment, trust, communication and children. Two, marriage is never easy and one should not go into it thinking life will be great. Both parties need to learn to communicate and work out the every day issues.
The actors were great-like everyone else I love John Krasinski who I think was perfect for this role.
I highly recommend this movie for a nice easy going, hilarious family movie. My 11 year old daughter could not stop laughing.
Movie Review: LIcense to Wed Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this movie for Thanksgivings because I was having dinner at my home. I had water damage the day before Thanksgiving and the plumber could not come out until the Saturday after the holiday. I was so depressed so I watched the movie while a friend was trying to fix the problem. I laughed until I cried. I packed all the uncooked food and travelled to my sister home and prepared Thanksgiving dinner. I took the movie and they asked could the keep the movie until Saturday. My family enjoyed watching this movie on Thanksgiving Day. When you are sad and need a good laugh. Definitely put on this movie. Excellent family movie.
Movie Review: It's Robin Williams, what do you expect? Summary: 5 Stars
Absolutely hilarious, that's what. Robin Williams as a priest and a marriage counselor, what else do you need to know? This movie is very funny and a great one to put in the DVD player when you want to laugh. If you don't enjoy Robin William's humor then you may not like this one, but if you do you won't be disappointed. Mandy Moore turns in a great performance as well. Highly recommended.
