Movie Review: Fun to watch!
Summary: 5 Stars
Andsnes performed these Mozart concertos in a beautiful Norwegian old post office building. In this lovely and intimate live recording, audiences were sitting close to the player, orchestra was quite small (not unusual for Mozart and Bach music), and the pianist conducted from the keyboard. You can almost feel like you are sitting and watching a live performance with them!
In terms of playing, his Mozart is very strong and energetic, sometimes almost too fast. However, Andsnes's playing was very exciting and enjoyable to watch. I may not consider him the greatest Mozart player but this DVD is sure fun to watch.
He gave a short interview in between each piece, giving some short introduction for each concerto. There was a longer interview in Norwegian language so I still have no idea what he was talking about. :)
However, whether you are a serious Mozart collector or this would be your first ever purchase of a classical music DVD, I think you will enjoy it.
One small complains, the last movement of concerto no.20 was not included. It's a bit strange that they put the first two movements in the DVD but not the final movement. Having said that, the performance, the unique persentation, and a wonderful sound quality were too good to reduce any star!
