Movie Reviews of Lee Ritenour - OvertimeMovie Review: Ritenour's Overtime DVD Is Exquisite Jazz Summary: 5 Stars
If you are a Ritenour fan I am sure you are already enjoying this absolute top-notch DVD. Pure, exquisite fusion-latin jazz recorded in audiophile sound of the highest calibre. (Thanks Don Murray.) If you are looking to upgrade your DVD sound system to audiophile grade (and unplug that booming subwoofer), this is the DVD to justify it. And if you are looking to move beyond the same old rock/pop/rap routine and see what the best of today's jazz is all about, this is your reference DVD. Lee Ritenour and friends delivers in Overtime the best live jazz performance ever.
Movie Review: This is a MUST-Have for guitar players....drummers...bass players...saxophonists, etc. Summary: 5 Stars
Lee and his musicians peel the paint off the wall in this excellent performance. He of course is a great player, with a virtuoso quality band, the cream of the crop of LA studio jazz hit-men with a few outside guests. Lee wrings the fattest tones from his L-5, 335, and Yahama guitars. This is some groovin' music filmed beautifully with great sound. I especially like "Capitan Fingers" and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone". It's 99.9% positive but I didn't like the continuity disrupted by the interviews. They should have been placed together in a features section.
Movie Review: one of the best music dvds I have seen Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very well-thought out and executed DVD with a lot of great playing, great picture, camera work and sound, comprehensive to Lee's career, and with the participation of important, great players. Are able to feel close to the music-making process like in a club, as it should be. Great stuff, and although I have generally gravitated towards more pure forms of jazz, this has a lot of variety but is still all great creative music all the way through. Ivan Lins' and Patrice Rushen's prominent inclusion makes this very well worth the price of admission.
Movie Review: Lee Ritenour Overtime DVD Format Summary: 5 Stars
Exactly what I expected from one of the most gifted guitar players I have ever heard. This is much more than just a guitar players CD. This is some serious brain stuff than can be appreciated by Miles Davis fans all the way to young kids. Quality is the word and a large thank you to Lee for all the inspiration after 40 years + of playing. Forgive me, but my one of my favorites still is of you with Larry. Please consider another for chumps like me. Oh yeah, I think I pass the over 13 question dang it!!
Thanks for the best!
Randy
Movie Review: Ultimate Entertainment Summary: 5 Stars
After watching one or two performances on Cameron Smith's BETJ show, I emailed him to get the name of the DVD and sent for it immediately! I have never gotten so much for my money and I just sent it to a friend of mine as a gift. What talent! It really makes a difference when you can see the musicians as they enjoy playing/singing their music. Everyone was so into what they were doing that the results make you want to shout encouragements to them even though you're in your own living room.
