Movie Reviews of LantanaMovie Review: Australian movies makers do it again Summary: 5 Stars
I saw this movie on the big screen in Australia and was enthralled from start to finish. I have never been in a movie where the audience does not talk either during or until after the credits roll. The complex nature of characters and relationships, along with the depth of the script and sensitivity in direction requires the viewer to be carried into their own fralities and challenges males in particular to experience the emotion of the characters. A very refreshing movie for adult audiences, not recommended for those after guns, reckless driving and other cheap hollywood stylising.
Movie Review: Most overlooked film of 2001/2002 Summary: 5 Stars
That Anthony LaPaglia is not nominated for this performance is a black eye on the Academy. His performance alone is worth going to see this film. And the supporting cast, from the always great Geoffrey Rush and Barbara Hershey on down the line is pitch perfect. A moody thriller who draws it's greatest level of suspense not from bloody violence, but from occurances in everybody's daily life. A unique filmgoing experience that deserved a far bigger audience. Shame on Lion's Gate Films for not promoting this film better!
Movie Review: I found out why it's an award winner. Summary: 5 Stars
I was astonished when Lantana won all the Australian film awards, over Moulin Rouge! So, I made the effort to find it on the big screen to see what could have charmed the Aussi audience so. Well, I found an intelligent, adult and finely crafted movie that moved me to the core. Although I am a devoted Russell Crowe fan, my favorite movie last year was not A Beautiful Mind, wonderful as it is, but Lantana. If you do not value a relationship story, then go elsewhere. If you do, then you are in for a treat with Lantana!
Movie Review: ...awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
It's been a long while since a movie just blew me away the way that this one did...Based on the trailer, I'd assumed that this was just some typical mystery movie...it just didn't look terribly interesting. Some guy's wife disappears, the cop thinks that the husband did it...This movie is SO MUCH MORE than that. The characters and their relationships are the real focus of this film...it has a depth and a richness to it that reminded me of Atom Egoyan's "Exotica"...then you really must see this movie.
Movie Review: Great Australian Film Summary: 5 Stars
Clearly one of the finest Australian works of late. 'Lantana' draws upon some of Australia's finest acting talent and creative prowess. A film which singles Australia out as the leading source of high quality actors for the American film industry. A hugely sucsessful film in Australia, 'Lantana' is actually the script for a play by Andrew Bovell - "Speaking in Tongues" which was revived by Playbox (a leading Australian theatre company) in 2003 at the C.U.B Malthouse in Melbourne.
