Movie Review: Oscar deserved

I saw Cabaret, which won the Oscar for the same year of Lady Sings The Blues and of course, lots of people would argue the issue, but Liza's performance as good as it was, could not compare to Diana Ross in this film, a portrait of the wonderful Billie Holiday. For her first screen acting job, this could not have been any stronger, and I think that the academy made a mistake. As fans this is a must for your collection, great performance as mentioned, great music. Very well produced and directed.Movie Review: DIANA ROSS SHOULD HAVE WON THE OSCAR

THIS IS THE ONLY MOVIE I HAVE SEEN AROUND 7 TIMES AND CRIED ALL OF THEM, DIANA ROSS WAS AWESOME IN LADY SINGS THE BLUES, I CAN'T SAY ENOUGH ABOUT HER AND THE MOVIE , IT IS A VERY MOVING SHOW ABOUT A WOMEN WITH LOW SELF ESTEEM AND HOW DRUGS RUINED HER LIFE AND EVENTUALLY TOOK IT.I WANTED HER TO WIN THE OSCAR SO MUCH BUT I GUESS SHE DIDN'T HAVE THE PULL AS LIZA MANELLI DID BEING JUDY GARLAND'S DAUGHTER, HOW I WISHED SHE WOULD HAVE GOT THIS OSCAR, SHE VERY WELL DESERVED IT.Movie Review: "LADY SINGS THE BLUES" YES; "MAHOGANY" NO

I am delighted to hear that "Lady Sings The Blues" is finally being released on DVD! "Mahogany" on DVD was listed on Amazon, but now there is nothing. Amazon, what happened? Did Paramount change its mind? I heard that "Mahogany" is now scheduled for a 2007 release date! This doesn't make any sense considering some of the DVD crap that is being released these days. Amazon, please give us an explanation as to why "Mahogany" has been pulled from your website. Thank you.Movie Review: Diana Ross is incredible

In my opinion, (surely due to strong bias because I have been listening to this album since I was a little girl) this album/DVD contains some of the absolute best versions of Billie Holiday songs ever recorded. Diana Ross exquisitely captured the perfect tempo(i), inflection, phrasing, and dynamics for every song (not to mention her incredible acting performance as well.) The movie is one that I can watch over and over and over again and always be captivated.Movie Review: AMERICAN HISTORY

After watching the movie you realize some thirty years later this is movie is amazing. Lady Sings The Blues, is entertaining as well as educational. The movie showcases the fine actors and actresses of that time. I have yet to see any movie portray African Americans in this way. This movie was ahead of its time and remains a claasic. The commentary and extra footage is incredible and informative. I will be sharing this movie with my friends and family.
