Movie Reviews of Lady Sings the BluesMovie Review: Lady Sings the Bules! Summary: 5 Stars
The movie may not be accurate to Billie Holiday's life, but what an amazing movie. I Saw this movie when it was first released and have been looking forward to the release of the DVD. After 33 years the movie still brings you into the heart of Billie Holiday and made a new generation aware of her music and take notice of this talented and truley one of a kind artist. This film opened the door for many and Miss Diana Ross was ahead of her time, bringing such class in her first acting role. She really poured her heart and soul into the movie and it shows, she also made audiences sit up and look at her in a new light. Billie Dee Williams and Richard Pryor are really great in their roles also.
Movie Review: A Supreme DVD from the Supreme Lady Summary: 5 Stars
Greetings from the island of sun, fun, and rum (Puerto Rico). My two video cassette of Lady Sings the Blues has been in my possession for over twenty years. To finally have this movie on DVD format enhances my video library. The Billie Holliday biopic gives you an idea of her struggles with drug addiction, her road to stardom, and her dealings with the prejudice that existed during her lifetime. Diana Ross, Dianne Ross, La Ross, or Miss Ross - whatever you call her - captures the essence of Billie Holliday perturbed life a la Ross. Diana Ross's betrayal of a troubled songstress is quite commendable as an initial effort to the silver screen.
Movie Review: A Classic Movie! Summary: 5 Stars
I love Lady Sings the Blues so much that I purchase it on DVD. This is my favorite all-time movie. The acting in this movie was excellent. Diana Ross did a excellent job. I'm going to give her mad props for playing the role of the late Billie Holiday. Don't forget about Billy Dee Williams and the late Richard Pryor part in this movie. They both did a excellent job too. Billy Dee Williams was a very handsome man back in the day and he's still is handsome today at a mature age. If you never seen Lady Sings the Blues before. You got to see this classic movie. You won't be disappointed!
Movie Review: Ross and Pryor should have been Oscar winners Summary: 5 Stars
I probally have seen "Lady Sings the Blues" over a 100 times, and its on TV right now.Its near the end after The Piano Man ,Richard Pryor, has just gotten killed.I'm amazed of his acting, and of course,Diana Ross. She is Billy Holiday, even the way she sings.I have alot of Holidays records, and Ross added her style blending with Billys to come up with one of the greatest performances ever on screen.
This DVD is a Classic, and its one of my top 10 films of all time.Even though I'm a Liza Minnelli fan,I wanted Ross to win the Oscar so bad that year, along with Richard Pryor.
Movie Review: A Supreme Actress as Well. Summary: 5 Stars
In 1972 I was still a child, and granted the story line of "Lady Sings the Blues" was alittle over my head. But even then I could tell an oscar winning performance and how Liza STOLD the oscar from Diana had to be in the "jeans" or that the oscar "ole boys" didn't want to award an African American actress with the oscar just yet..in any case the test of time shows Diana Giving the performace of a life time as billie. The new interview with the 61 year Ross are amazing as well. She is as Supreme in 2005 as ever.
