Movie Reviews of LabyrinthMovie Review: For all those who are still dreming of another world Summary: 5 Stars
Oh my God! This is just a supreme movie which captured me at the tender age of 5 years old. When I was a child I thought I was going to get tired of it when I grew up. BUT NO. Now I am 19, and I'm still enjoying the magic and fantasy of Labyrinth, and will let Henson's bequest to my descendants. Needless to say that this so 80's look in all the hair, costumes and music has remained until today, without looking so old fashioned as in other similar movies. From the "Underground" credits to the touching end, this movie is better than anyone could think just by looking at its plot or its cover. It's not about a girl who has to get trough a labyrinth to get back her brother. It is deeper,it's about the negation of growing up, about being in self-created world full of criatures you've ever dreamed of. Labyrinth is about me and all those people in the world who still believe in another land where you can live a never ending childhood. At the end of the movie Hoggle and Sir Didymus say: "Should you need us, should you need us for any reason at all...". Then, I need you Hoggle, Sarah, Jareth, Ludo, all of you, just to make my own private fantasy land complete and real. I KNEEL DOWN TO YOU, SIR HENSON
Movie Review: "Did You Say Hello? No, I Said Ello." Summary: 5 Stars
Who can ever forget Jim Henson's masterpiece `Labyrinth' released in '86 starring a very young and beautiful teenager named Jennifer Connelly as Sarah and rock legend David Bowie as the frightening Goblin King (how's that for type casting). Add to the mix a myriad of madcap muppets and you have one of the most delightful, imaginative and original family films of all time.
With 842 reviews posited to date with an overall rating of the maximum allowed - 5 Stars - this is clearly a film with a large following of adoring fans. And why shouldn't it? This is state of the art cinema displaying a commitment to detail that is truly amazing; cast, script, costumes, set design and music are out of this world. Henson has successfully created a magical landscape that will enthrall and fascinate viewers of all ages.
Join Sarah on her perilous journey through the labyrinth as she overcomes physical obstacles, an assorted collection of mischievous muppets and a frightening encounter with the Goblin King as she attempts to rescue her baby brother before it's too late.
Sure to become a family favorite. Highly Recommended!
Movie Review: Incredible movie Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this movie as a young child. It was my first time seeing the phenomenal David Bowie, now my favorite singer. What's there to say that hasn't been said? The music is incredible (I love "Underground", "As the World Falls Down", "Within You", "Magic Dance",... I love them all. David Bowie has such an incredible voice. Combined with expert writing, it's magical). It's funny, adventurous, and witty. It shows the value of thought and sheer will as well as the value of might. And through all of this, it manages to teach more than so many movies while being among one of the most entertaining films I have seen, even to date. How many other movies teach a lesson, let alone a few, without hitting the audience over the head with it? It's rare among films for older audiences, and almost impossible to find among children's movies. This one does it. No matter how many years pass, it doesn't get old. Labyrinth is a movie full of spirit and youth, with enough of an indescribable something that adults will enjoy it as much as kids. It has that spark that so many things lack.
Movie Review: Amazing Movie! Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw this movie when I was probbaly 7 years old and I loved it. Not until very recently did I really start to get inot it. (I am 13.) Not only did I absolutley fall in love with the movie, but I also am starting to listen to David Bowie's music. You have to admit if David didn't play Jareth, this movie wouldn't be as good as it is. Jennifer Connelly is amazing as well. I oculd hardly believe that she was only 14! She looks a lot older than that!
I love the plot of the story. How often to you wish your younger sibling to be taken away by a Goblin King thinking such a thing isn't possible but turns out to be? Jim Henson was very creative when it came to making this movie. And then you have that sub-plot where Jareth falls in love with Sarah. It would have been great if Jim Henson would have made a sequel and expand on the "Jareth and Sarah" plot. But none the less, great movie. I laways joke to my little brother that when he bothers me I am going to call the Goblin King and make him take you away and I'm not going to solve a Labyrinth for 13 hours trying to find you! LOL!
Movie Review: Simply one of the finest movies... Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not here to give a summary of Labyrinth, but instead I simply wanted to push those of you on the fence off... If you aren't sure whether you want this movie let me give you the answer... YES YOU DO!!!!!When Labyrinth first came out in the movie theater I was a young teenager and I was immediately captivated. This movie spoke to me like no other movie ever had. It was that awkward time in every kids life, not quite a child not quite an adult. Like all good Fairy Tales, this one aided me in realizing despite wanting to hold on to my childhood I had to let go, but that it didn't mean forgetting or leaving who I was behind. I've taken my childhood with me ever since. All of these complex ideas were intangible to me as a child but now when I watch Labyrinth I'm reminded of who I was and who I am. Also the DVD version includes a wonderful behind the scenes making featurette. Listening to Jim Henson describe what we was trying to accomplish (especially in the ballroom scene) is simply enthralling... Jim Henson was a master storyteller and Labyrinth is quite possibly his finest creation.
