Movie Reviews of La SeparationMovie Review: a sad movie Summary: 5 Stars
Anne is obviously unhappy with her relationship with pierre. The relationship has gotten stale and passion gone. This can be seen through small clues such as her mechanical robot like behavior, their bikering and more importantly her refusal to take his hand in the cinema. This refusal awakens pierre's founded suspicions since she later informs him that she has fallen in love with another man. At first, pierre doesn't react very much but as the weeks go by his jealousy comes out and he begins to react. During all this time, anne shows that she still cares for him and is worried. If anne is really into a passionate relationship, she does not show it. Which leads to the question; is there really another man (we never see him and apart from a couple of dates, it appears she is still mostly at home) or if there is, is she not doing this to try and rekindle her relationship with pierre? Pierre goes through stages not unsimilar to someone who is told he will die. First the non-belief then why me then anger and finally acceptance. At the end anne tells him the relationship is over with the other man. She seem to want him back in her life by insisting that if he has no place to go, he can move in with her, he doesn't feel this to be a good idea and she seems really disappointed. The movie ends with anne staring at a door and pierre wandering the streets trying to hail a taxi. It is obvious that although pierre is broken hearted he has accepted the separation and perhaps anne played her game a little too far. The relationship is likely far from over in view of the common bonds such as their son loulou and long relationship and lets not forget the title "the separation" which is not an irrevocable term.
