Movie Review: Worth every minute
Summary: 5 Stars
This is an amazing anime, so it's a shame that ADV hasn't released it until now; three years after they got the license. To give a little bit of background, this was made by Studio BONES, the studio behind Full Metal Alchemist, Scrapped Princess, Wolf's Rain, and Cowboy Bebop: The Movie. This anime was my favorite thing made by them, hands down.

Set one hundred years in the future, Kurau Amane is the daughter of a scientist on the moon who's been experimenting on the revolutionary, newly discovered "Rynax" energy. On her birthday, Kurau goes to work with him, but something goes wrong, the energy breaks containment and flashes out, hitting Kurau and disintegrating her. Although she reforms, she now identifies herself as "Rynax", revealing that the energy was sentient. More pressing, although retaining Kurau's memories and experiences, she is unable to leave the body until the appearance of her "pair", who was injured in the experiment and is resting.
10 years pass, and "Kurau" using her special energy related powers has become a top mercenary on Earth. However, despite the long time for recovery, her pair has yet to appear. Not only that but she seems to be under a lot of surveillance...
Graphically astounding, a fantastic soundtrack, and an action-filled but dramatic plot, this is an amazing anime. It will regularly make you shed tears out of the level of sadness sometimes, so be aware that it's a little more emotional than usual fare.

It s the year 2100 and the moon is now home to a colony of scientists and pioneers. It s also host to dangerous experiments into strange new forms of energy and it isn t long before one of them goes terribly wrong. In a freak accident young Kurau the daughter of chief scientist Amami So is struck by mysterious twin bolts of light. Rather then taking her life the accident leaves her playing host to two mysterious entities that give her fantastic powers and little love for the human race. Ten years have passed since the incident and Kurau has grown into a top-notch agent of action. While observing an experiment in her father's physics lab, 12-year-old Kurau is struck by a bolt of energy. Her body becomes the home of a Rynax, a strange creature that exists as a double entity. Its "Pair" slumbers within the girl, undetected, while the active being gives Kurau the power to levitate, pass through physical barriers, etc. Ten years later, Kurau uses her superhuman abilities as a sort of freelance law-enforcement officer. One night, the Pair appears, manifesting itself as a naive girl. Overcome with emotion, Kurau names her "Christmas" and vows to protect her. Government agents want to capture Kurau as she's an unregistered "Ryna sapiens." The relationship between Kurau and Christmas feels like an uneasy mixture of parental and romantic, and the uncertainty of the relationship of the original Kurau to the two Rynax only adds to the confusion.
