Movie Reviews of Krull (Special Edition)

Movie Review: Golden Oldie
Summary: 5 Stars

In the days of the Arcades there was a good movie that came out (and funny enough had a great Arcade game) called Krull. Now mind you, I really had no idea what this movie was all about before i saw it (when i was a whole bunch younger) just saw the 5 bladed "glaive" and was sold but now as an adult i find i still like this movie and it reminds me of a true dungeons and dragons style adventure then almost any other movie (including those terrible scifi D&D movies ugh) it starts off with a prince and of course a princess yes been done before many many times but then in come the Slayers and from then on its a totally different experience. with such ultimate favorites as the Emerald Seer, The Widow of the Web and the Cyclops and of course the shapeshifting (a bit daft too) wizard with some very strange habits (i dare not tell you so as not to ruin it) but this is a classic movie and it will be good for generations to come.
Pros: cool effects (for the time) good story well done plot and themes

cons: may be a bit too old for some and not flashy enough. but remember it is a tad old.
its a 5 star easily some may not agree but judge the movie on its merits and not against those of today and anyone can see the care and detail that made this movie great!

Movie Review: Something of an underrated classic....
Summary: 5 Stars

Since seeing this film for the first time on its theatrical release, I have felt that it's something of a minor masterpiece. It's definitely more than the sum of its parts, virtually all of which you might find in other films of the genre. Certainly, James Horner's score is one element that lifts this film above its competitors--it's one of the finest scores for a film of this type ever, and puts Horner in the company of John Williams and Bernard Herrman. The best way to describe the effect this film has is to say that it has the mysterious archetypal power of a compelling dream. It manipulates primal symbols like fire and water with great effectiveness. Some scenes (I think particularly of the Widow of the Web) seem to bubble up from the collective unconscious. If you have a taste for fantasy with a deep element of archetypal power, you need to see this. Either it works for you or it doesn't, but if it does, you cannot forget this film. It will haunt your dreams.

Movie Review: What's in a plot?
Summary: 5 Stars

It's like Hitchcock said, people were always complaining there were more holes in his movie's plots than in a swiss cheese. He wasted his breath all his career trying to make people realize that the plot is irrelevant. Nobody cares what it is that brings the boy and girl together and then apart and then together again: if it's an international web of spies, or the wicked witch of the west , or the monster from the black lagoon.
The whole movie feels like it's been filmed on a studio - and it feels more real, and more romantic and more magical to me than The Lord of the Rings, that's so big and wide - and somehow cold, and never truly majestic or intimate.
But this is one of those movies you keep in your heart, thinking you're the only one who appreciates it, like a well kept secret - and then look how old it is and how many people have written a review about it! They didn't forget it either. That makes it worth something if nothing else.

Movie Review: Not The Best Movie Ever, But I Enjoyed It.
Summary: 5 Stars

This was a sword and sorcery movie with bad guys that seemed to have come from a sci-fi movie. This is not the greatest movie, but I always had a high opinion of it. Let me tell you what I liked about it.

1. The bad guy's castle disappeared daily and appeared someplace else.

2. While there was a main hero, it seemed to be a tale of a group of friends that worked together.

3. I really enjoyed the relationship between one of the characters, a hapless magician, and a young boy.

4. The main hero was faithful to his girlfriend.

5. I enjoyed the scenes of the widow of the web and the heroes trying to tame the "fire steeds".

This would undoubtedly have earned a PG-13 had that rating existed, and I would not take young children to see it without parental accompaniment. But I found it overall wholesome.

Movie Review: Fantastic Picture, Excellent Sound Quality, Great DVD!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

My family and I first saw this movie in the theater in 1983 when it was first released, and we fell in love with the characters and the story, and the principles that the movie instilled in those who were intelligent enough to have the insight to understand what the movie was REALLY about!! Anyone with a spiritual background will know what I mean! We have just received the DVD today, and are in fact playing it as I write this. It is fantastic, and in the widescreen 2:35/1, it is just like watching it in the movies once again, not missing any of the beautiful scenery or action!! The music is done by James Horner, who did the Star Trek music, and the Perfect Storm, among other great movies. Very uplifting movie, beautifully filmed and acted, and the DVD is tremendous!!! You will love this one!!!
