Movie Reviews of Krull (Special Edition)Movie Review: KRAPP Summary: 1 Stars
Upon seeing that boomerang-type weapon (the glaive) as the principal icon or symbol to promote KRULL back in 1983, my first reaction was that the filmakers were trying to outdo STAR WARS' lightsabers as the better weapon. Upon seeing the film when it finally came out, I can see why they promoted the weapon because there wasn't much of anything to promote. The basic plot isn't inventive as its as old as a Grimm Brothers fairy tail. A damsel in distress needs to be rescued from the clutches of an evil monster. A prince gathers a motley crew of misfits to rescue her and the glaive is his prime weapon to kill the monster. Where STAR WARS brought cinema to a new future, KRULL shoved it right back down to the past. This is a lame sword and sorcery/sci-fi adventure with terrible special effects, bad set design, bad location shots, bad cinematography, bad casting, bad acting, bad characters, bad everything. This reviewer always can not sit though it when it appears on cable from time to time. As many times as this reviewer has tried, always ends up channel surfing to find something better (and usually somethinG else better can be found!). Noteworthy only to see Robbie Coltrane (from the HARRY POTTER movies,) and Liam Neeson (STAR WARS: THE PHANTOM MENACE). At least this film didn't hurt their careers as they went on to star in better sci-fi/fantasy films. Whatever happened to Ken Marshell and Lysette Anthony who played the two leads in this forgettable tax write-off?
