Movie Review: Joyous experience!
Summary: 5 Stars
I am a yoga teacher and am thrilled to find a DVD that truly gets at the heart of yoga. It's all about bringing your awareness to the body and breath. This class helps to focus the mind, take the student inward, and strengthen the body as well.
Stephen has shown that you can still get a cardiovascular exercise (it does get your heart pumping), without racing through the poses. He takes time to pause in each pose, to give the student a chance to feel what is going on inside the body. He really gives the student a chance to find their own comfortable place in the pose. By holding the poses, you get to a very deep place, emotionally, mentally, and physically, and feel absolutely refreshed at the end.
I will say that this is a DVD that is definately for an experienced practioner who already knows how to breath properly (diaphragmatic breathing). There is no explanation how to do this in the DVD, but there is mention of the breath in general. The poses are also more challenging... something that might be difficult for a beginner. Great for someone who wants a bit more of a challenge.
This was an excellent DVD. Stephen has a very soothing voice, the location was great - nothing fancy, a simple dark background for the class, very professionally done, and great music that is very helpful to calm the mind.
There are quite a few backbends in the class. I enjoyed that, as it was very invigorating and opening. My body and mind feel much more open at the end.
A few small things - there is no Fish pose after the Shoulderstand (I feel it's an important counterpose to do). I felt that the Warrior pose in the beginning could have been entered into more gently. But that's it. Overall, I still give it 5 stars. Loved it!
