Movie Reviews of Kramer vs. Kramer

Movie Review: Some People are Clueless
Summary: 4 Stars

For everyone complaining how it was a bad movie obviously had no idea what they were watching or the point of the whole movie. The point was not for a family drama the whole point was to show a fatal flaw in the justice system. Back in the day there was a law in place saying that if a child was under a certain age and both parents were able to take care of the kid that it would by default go to the mother because women were better nurturers.

The whole point of the film was to show that fathers can nurture just as good as mothers and mothers should not just be given custody by default. To truly understand this movie you would have to have some knowledge of family law back in the 70's and early 80's. Its like watching a WW2 movie without knowing the background behind WW2

plus this law was very much an issue back in that time..only watching it now does it seem dumb cause the atmosphere and justice system changed

Movie Review: Meryl Streep first Academy Award Win
Summary: 4 Stars

I am writing this review since I am a big Meryl Streep fan. I had never since this movie complete and since I just bought her AFI Tribute package, so I started with this one, an must-see for every Meryl Streep fan.
The movie basicly is a Family Drama in which Ted Kramer (Dustin Hoffman) is left with his 6-year old son (Justin Henry) by his wife Joanna (Meryl Streep) because she feels that something is missing in her life and she feels trap.
The performances are great and you can feel both parents' love for the child and somehow you are torn trying to understand Joanna (how she can left her child but also how she felt lost).
This movie won 5 Oscars including Best Picture, Best Actor (Hoffman) and Best Supporting Acctress (Streep, includes a nice Documentary about the movie that includes insights from the Director, Producers and Cast, a must-have for any Streep, Hoffman or Family Drama fans.

Movie Review: HOFFMAN ON THE ROCKS
Summary: 4 Stars

A harried husband (Dustin Hoffman) finds out what it's like to raise a child as a single parent after his wife (Meryl Streep) just packs up and walks out on their lives. Today, divorce stories are a dime a dozen but when "Kramer Vs. Kramer" first hit the scene on the cusp of the 1980's it was a genuine revelation. And although we've seen the story told and retold countless times since, nothing quite captures the immediacy and sheer energy of this ground-breaking American classic.
Columbia TriStar has given us the film in a pretty good looking transfer. Yes, colors are dated but they are incredibly well balanced and, at times, even vibrant. Some minor aliasing in fine details but nothing to distract. The audio has been nicely restored. There's a documentary that's pretty informative, albeit short. BOTTOM LINE: YES - A KEEPER!

Movie Review: Rollercoaster ride
Summary: 4 Stars

Take an emotional theme, one that half the population can personally relate to (divorce and child custody), milk it for all it's worth, and you're sure to have a winner. Dustin Hoffman is the ad. exec. whose wife walks out on him, leaving him with their son (Justin Henry) to raise. A failure at first, Hoffman learns how to deal with it, eventually at the cost of his job, until there is a strong bond between father and son. Meryl Streep plays the wife who, just as things really start to click between Hoffman and Henry, comes back to claim custody. Playing to our emotions every step of the way, it's hard to be objective about all this. Hoffman is excellent as Kramer, but everything about the movie is very controlled and calculated toward a single effect. Well done, though, of its kind.

Movie Review: a very fine film
Summary: 4 Stars

Do you remember a time when people made films that were well thought out and revealed elements of the human condition with stark calrity?Well, those times are gone, but "Kramer versus Kramer" is a prime example of movie-making in Hollywood's real Golden Era...the 1970's.The scenarios are realistic, the acting is brilliant, and the writing is top-notch."Kramer versus Kramer" wasn't the best movie of 1979 (that would be "Apocalypse Now",which "Kramer" beat for the Best Picture" Oscar that year). But,it is a very rewarding film. The only drawback is the ending, which seems kind of rushed and,to be honest, sloppy. However, this is a very minor quip and shouldn't prevent anyone from owning this great film.
