Movie Reviews of Kramer vs. Kramer

Movie Review: Great movie, great acting, but the mom is an IDIOT!
Summary: 5 Stars

OK, this whole review is a big *SPOILER ALERT* for those few of you who haven't seen this late 70's classic. Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep give fine performances, along with the kid, one of the best child acting performances I've seen. As mentioned already by other reviewers, a great example of the trend that was growing fast back in that day an age (divorce), and a good view of the pains, heartaches, stress, etc. that usually results from that kind of ordeal. Not fun.

OK, here's the spoiler statement, because I just have to VENT. A fine time for the mom to suddenly decide she doesn't want the kid after all, after both parents spend thousands of dollars in court fighting over custody of their son!! Hoffman's character (the Dad) hugs Streep's character (the Mom) when she breaks the news to him. Man, I half-jokingly wish he would have STRANGLED her instead! "You mean after all this time, pain, heartache, and money down the drain on these lawyers, NOW you decide you don't want him?! ARRRRRGH! (Strangle)"

So a really annoying ending to the story, but nevertheless a classic movie!

Movie Review: A superb melodrama!
Summary: 5 Stars

Those late seventies were so turbulent and depressive that the same show business looked insight the soul and spirit of the most of people. Somehow this decade constituted to the American Cinema what the late Fifties to the French people. We don't talk a true New Wave literally speaking but a reencounter with the roots of the human being. Watch for the winner titles in those ages: Melvin and Howard, Julia, Annie Hall, People like one, The verdict, Deer Hunter and obviously this one .
It was necessary to adapt to the screen this simple story because the family as institution was experiencing an evident disintegration process, that was one of the multiple consequences of an existential, emotional and ethic disarrange.
The film shows us many common places about the custody of a son product of an unhappy separation and all the efforts of a father in search of his son's love.
Brilliant performances and notable direction.

Movie Review: Divorce American Style.
Summary: 5 Stars

Many people fall in love and get married and by instinct the children come. Many planned over what shall come after and are prepared. Many married for love, some for conveniance, but when things go wrong, children are always the victims. They never have faults over what their parents like or dislike.
In this movie we learned that if you wanna change another person, you have to change yourself, because we can never change a person. Some people need to be alone sometimes and it has to be tollerated because the person doesn't belong to us,neither our childrens are ours. They don't come from us,but through us.Somewhere it has to be a compromise, respecting the individual's need because every person is an individual.
Giving a space to another person is also giving a space to ourselves.
This movie was a 'boom' in Europe, one reason is for the stars and characters, another one is because the men lost their homes...!!

Movie Review: Hits Close to Home
Summary: 5 Stars

I had always avoided this movie growing up as a child. I don't know why, I guess I assumed it was too "deep". Then I recently decided to watch it, as the story seemed to mirror my own childhood. This movie beautifully captures the truth behind a good relationship between a father and his son. It provides insight into the good times and the bad. The emotions are powerful and very real, and if you have a close relationship with a single parent then this film will touch a raw nerve.

I felt that Dustin Hoffman's character was played remarkably and his transformation is profound. Meryl's character seemed somewhat believable, certainly her reasons for the performance were there. The little boy in the movie was incredible and really gave life and breath to the soul of his character. It's not a happy story and it's not all bad either, it's a life story. It's worth your time.

Movie Review: Kramer vs. Kramer
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great movie! Ted and Joanna Kramer are a married couple heading for divorce. He's a workaholic, oblivious to the needs of his wife and young son Billy, and she's a stay-at-home mom in desperate need of finding herself. She walks out and leaves Ted to deal with his son all alone, even though he doesn't know the first thing about parenting.

He becomes a good father and learns how to deal with work and parenting, only to have his wife return to take Billy with her. What happens next, I don't want to say because it will give it away, but it's definitely worth seeing....and owning!

Kramer vs. Kramer won 5 Oscars in 1979, including Best Picture and Best Actor (Dustin Hoffman). It's a timeless classic that you'll totally enjoy.
