Movie Reviews of KolyaMovie Review: Warm & Charimg Summary: 5 Stars
In 1988 Louka, a free spirited musician, is offered a proposal to fake a marriage in order help a young Russian woman stay in Czechoslovakia. This is an offer that Louka cannot refuse, since he is in debt and needs a car. He goes ahead and marries the young woman who has a five year old son named Kolya. Consequently, she flees out of Eastern Communist Europe with a visa that is only allowed to Czechoslovakian citizens. Unwillingly Louka is left with Kolya, but he is forced to take care of him as the Communist government is investigating the marriage. Kolya is a warm and charming drama that softens the hardest of hearts as the audience views the traumatic experiences and love that the film depicts.
Movie Review: Highly recommended Summary: 5 Stars
Be my guest and watch this emotional film. The old man is the directors father, who is a director of famous films, too. Be prepared for the scene when the little boy phones his grandmother. That one scene is still strong in my memory. I rented the film first, then bought it. This is not one you would find at the local rental store. You have to use Netflix.com and the like. Again, do not let the sub titles scare you away. The film is so well acted that you may not need to read them.
Movie Review: Warm and fuzzy Summary: 5 Stars
A beautiful story of a middle-aged musician in Prague just prior to the overthrow of communism. When communism arrived in Czechoslovakia the hero was, due to his brother's escape, removed from the orchestra and had to earn his living playing for funerals at a crematorium. Through a series of bad choices he ends up responsible for a small Russian boy. How they win each other over is a joy to watch and more than one tear is shed. Truly a delight! Superb acting.
Movie Review: Kolya Summary: 5 Stars
Kolya is a beautiful story about how a little boy and an older man have their lives crossed and how they are forever changed. The performances and cinematography are perfect. Seeing this movie on DVD gives the viewer the opportunity to also view the production notes...an interesting story about how they found this beautiful little boy, who is not a professional actor, but just a precious little boy. One of the best foreign films ever in my opinion.
Movie Review: Wonderful viewing. Summary: 5 Stars
Not only is this a touching story, it is also at times, a humorous one. I will not bore you with the story line as I am sure you have read about it in previous reviews anyway. It bought a tear to the eye of this grown man, even though the story is not that original, and you can pretty much guess the ending. That said, this is still worthy of a couple of lazy hours. One of the better movies I have seen in a while.
