Movie Reviews of Kitchen Wisdom from Good Eats (Good Eats Vol. 20)Movie Review: Vol. 20 of Good Eats - Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I admit it, we are foodies. It started with my hubby (a bit like Alton Brown so naturally he was happily drawn to the show Good Eats) who quickly addicted myself and both of our teen daughters. We were immediately drawn to the entertainment factor and unbelievable tips and bits of information/education. We are devote Alton Brown fans. Anyone who can bring the level of education/information he does in such a fun way in just 30 minutes is awesome!
The 3-DVD collection is the newest Good Eats DVD release for 2009/2010 and is Vol. 20: Kitchen Wisdom. Aside from 3rd sellers on Amazon, I have only seen this Volume at Target/Target through Amazon (if you can find it) aside from the TV show network. If you are an Alton Brown fan, it's worth picking the DVD's here at the current low prices while you can. This is a great collection and a must for Good Eats - Alton Brown fans!
This 3 DVD collection comes in a cardboard case with the cover art on the front of the case/box as seen in the product description above. Very tastefully done. The back of the case/box gives a short paragraph about the good eats show and then the details on what is on each DVD. The DVD's are in 3 separate slim plastic cases which slide into the open side end of the cardboard case/box. Each plastic DVD case has the same cover art as the cardboard case/box and the back lists each episode on the disc with more details. Unfortunately, no printed materials or printed recipes come with this collection. No paper inserts at all, just the DVD's. Not a big deal for us, but this may be an important to some.
DVD's and episodes on each disc:
Disc One: The Fruit Bowl
# Orange Aid
# Kinda Blue (Blueberry)
# Cran Opening
Disc Two: Bake it Up
# Going Dutch
# Popover Sometime
# Flat is Beautiful: Going Crackers
Disc Three: Secrets of Your Kitchen
# Frozen Cache
# There Will be Oil
# Pantry Raid X: Dark Side of the Cane
As always, Alton Brown is both highly entertaining and educational, fun to watch as a family. I highly recommend this collection for Alton Brown Good Eats fans and this DVD set would make an excellent gift choice. Am very pleased with my purchase!
Summary of Kitchen Wisdom from Good Eats (Good Eats Vol. 20)Good Eats with Alton Brown is the most fun you can have watching TV while still learning something. It's cooking meets chemistry meets science class meets recess. Mix in his quirky personality and random jabs at pop culture and you have great TV. Or as Alton world say, Good Eats.
Disc 1 - The Fruit Bowl: Leave it to Alton Brown to bring new life to the humble fruit bowl. Learn how versatile the orange can be, turn a summer favorite (the blueberry) into a year-round treat, and follow the berry from the bog to the bar (and beyond) with delicious cranberry recipes. Episodes include "Orange Aid", "Kinda Blue (Blueberry)", and "Cran Opening".
Disc 2 - Bake It Up: Step outside your usual routine and bake up something new. Join Alton as he teaches us how to cook a cherry dessert (and more) in a cast iron pan, that crackers don't have to come from a box, and how one very versatile recipe can yield a variety of dishes. Episodes include "Going Dutch", "Popover Sometime", and "Flat Is Beautiful: Going Crackers".
Disc 3 - Secrets of Your Kitchen: Look no further than your pantry or freezer to make the most of what's in your kitchen. Let Alton teach you great techniques on how to use your freezer for food preservation, get the skinny on the various oils in your market (and kitchen), and reach deep into the pantry for the history of and recipes using a cupboard classics: molasses. Episodes include "Frozen Cache", "There Will Be Oil", and "Pantry Raid X: Dark Side of the Cane".
