Movie Reviews of Kiss of Death (Fox Film Noir)

Movie Review: A solid classic
Summary: 5 Stars

This great piece of cinema has lost none of its punch in more than 50 years. Even more starkly photographed than most "film noir." Makes you realize, if you don't already, that filmmakers and actors knew what they were doing back then, frequently producing results far superior to most of their modern counterparts.

Movie Review: For a new comer to the movies Widmark is great quite chillin
Summary: 5 Stars

Most review the movie about the same Wheelchair cruel etc.You can't help but love him in the part and will not forget him. Has anyone seen Richard Widmark in "The Bedford Incident" or some of his later movies? He Is a real fine actor. The movie has you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Seeing it once is not enough.

Movie Review: Suspense-filled postwar film noir
Summary: 3 Stars

3 1/2 stars. This is one of a number of on-location thrillers (House on 92nd Street, Dark Corner, Boomerang, Call Northside 777) made by Twentieth Century Fox after World War II. In this case too, on location filming and a razor-sharp script produced a first-rate suspenser. Mature showed his mettle as a good actor, and Widmark in his debut played a skull-faced ,giggling, almost moronic psycopathic hood with such glee that he still remains in the memory of many film buffs. The whole movie was so well done that one wonders if the 1995 remake was really necessary.

Movie Review: Worth your time if you love classic suspense!
Summary: 5 Stars

Classic dress, classic dialogue, class actors! You can't go wrong if you want classic suspense! KISS OF DEATH is a great piece for Vic Mature & anyone who loves his look (ladies!!) will love this film! When he comes home from work in his grubby jeans & finds his new young wife (former sitter for his 2 little girls) cooking a spaghetti dinner, you can't help but feel the realism in the fact that he loves his family & hates the idea that he's mixed up in all this police stuff & the likes of Tommy Udo!

Yes, who can forget Widmark's Tommy Udo as the sniveling psycho with the evil giggle?! What a stark contrast to the upstanding, repentant Mature as Nick Bianco!

Brian Donlevy is always a treat to see in a classic film. Convincing & able, he's the D.A. with a heart.

Go buy this one, folks! If it's classic you want, it's classic you'll get with all the suspense you can handle!

Movie Review: The Big Kiss!
Summary: 5 Stars

Henry Hathaways film still packs a punch. Widmark,s debut as Tommy Udo, Matures turn as Nick Bianco, look for Taylor Holmes as a crooked lawyer, Brain Donlevy as the Asst. D.A. and quickly for Millard Mitchell and Karl Malden.. Its Widmarks picture though , he redefines a sadistic killer.

Wrap it all up in that familiar film score by Newman.
